Neat places to visit traveling from san diego to NE Ohio

Well, about an hour ago I found out Im getting medically separated from the navy in 13 days....Needless to say, they will be moving my shit back to Ohio and well I figure might as well take the time to see some cool/neat/interesting places on my way back. So any ideas of where/what to see would be awesome. Also any tips for moving cross country? Really only been stationed west coast so kind of a new thing lol.

where in NE Ohio are you? i just moved to Hiram a few months ago.

don't know about from SD to OH, but as far as places to check out around here, Chagrin Falls is neat, Beachwood/Shaker Heights is where all the Jews are, and there's Beachwood Place Mall and Legacy Village in those two areas worth checking out. Coventry is also where a lot of the bars are, just outside of Cleveland.

Eh, I really don't recommend going back to NE Ohio unless you have to (I assume you're from the area). Area sucks even more now than when I left. I recently moved back and I'm living here temporarily until January. I can't wait to get out of the area again.

As to places on your way back, it depends which way you take. You could either do the whole travel across the southern US (basically see desert and flat land forever) and then travel north or you could travel north a bit and take I-80 all the way back (see mountains and then flat land forever). Which way do you plan on taking?

Not sure yet, I could really go anywhere, Im in zero rush to get home. And yes Im from the east side of cleveland and the navy will only move my house for free if its back to my home of record so. Im taking the free move until I can figure out where to go from next.

Anybody who disagrees with this has never lived outside of Ohio.

Let me guess, you love snow and cold weather and you don't care about sports.
    Although your sig says otherwise...
Well okay, I guess I kind of like Columbus, since I'm living here now.
And OSU's football team is pretty badass, I'll give it that.
But Ohio is still a shithole of epic proportions.

Just looking at the "recommended" route on Google maps it all looks like a fun drive. You drive through Vegas, Salt Lake City, through the rockies, Denver, then it gets boring for a while.... (but it's either Nebraska or Kansas so you don't have a lot of choice), but you drive right by Chicago as well. But yeah, Vegas, SLC, Denver, Chicago....sounds like a fun drive. I've done the Western part of the drive and it's great. The other option is taking I-40 all the way over.....but don't do that. I-40 sucks balls, and it's a terribly boring drive.

Ohio has one thing going for it, the NFL Hall of Fame, I used to go there all the time when I lived in Canton.

As for stuff to do on the drive back, hit up Vegas and have some fun there. Then swing down into AZ and go to the Grand Canyon if you haven't been there before, it's definitely worth visiting once in your life. Swing up by Colorado Springs and moon the Air Force Academy since you're a Navy man. Couldn't really tell you much about the middle states so you'll have to ask someone else about that.

The mountainous area of Utah and Colorado was some of the neatest driving I've done. If you decide to go this route I recommend swinging by some of the places like Arches National Park for some really neat landscape.

What route you taking? I assume you are going from SD, to Vegas, to Denver, to Omaha, to Chicago, to Ohio? I usually like to wing it when doing cross country trips. I pay attention to the billboards and just stop at whatever looks interesting. Going that route, I would definitely spend a night in those major cities. The day time is for things like parks and stuff.

Its been YEARS since ive been to a zoo in Ohio, i usually only got to visit in the winter time so ya. Cedar Point, RnR HoF, Football HoF, The horseshoe during college football games, and I like the ruralness of where i live compared to the big cities as well. I love ohio, I really could do without the crazy long winters and such, i dont mind snow and cold just it gets old after like 4 months of it.

Also, Im not taking a set route or anything. Just checking for the main highways before i leave to make sure i hit those but im goign out of my way to see friends and such along the way so, as long as my monetary funds hold Ill be drive and traveling so. At least till I get bored and just beam it straight home lol. Havent been to the grand canyon since I was a kid so definitely going to see that, and I love the Airforce academy idea as well just for the lulz. Also, I just thought of this, Man vs Food is one of my favorite shows as im an avid food lover, I want to try to hit some of those challenges along the way if I can, specially anyone regarding spicy food <3 it.
