    Virtual PC? or Virtual Box?

Ok, so I just got all my yummy free software from my school's MSDN Alliance thingy and I am eager to try out the products.

I already have Virtual Box but I downloaded Virtual PC from the MSDN site. What do you guys think? Is Virtual PC better to use? or Virtual Box? Or do they both suck and I need to use other stuff like VMware?

Virtual PC is only designed to work with windows based software as the guest OS. I would go with VirtualBox if you are planning on using Linux/Unix distros. You could also use VMWare but that's usually not free.

In addition, if you're using Windows 7, Virtual PC will only install on certain flavors - MS has cut down the feature list over time, and is now really positioning it as "XP Compatibility Mode" or whatnot in Professional/Enterprise/Ultimate. In the past VPC was a good option for other OSes, and did support a handful of non-Windows OSes...but not the current version (and 2007 won't install on 7). I'd agree that VirtualBox is the way to go now, at least for free.

So if I want free, go Virtual Box and VMware if I wanna pay. I used VMware in one of my classes and sorta liked it. May bite the bullet and try to get a discounted version or something.

Another question though... In Virtual Box I am running the newest Unbuntu, but when I try and toss the ball to my ATI card, it stabs it with a pencil. Any ideas on how to get the card to work effectively in Linux?

If you are lucky and are a Computer Science/Engineering major, you may have access to a free copy of VMWare...

    Ehhh... more like Telecommunications.

MAYBE in later semesters I may get something like that.

Compsci is something I may go for later though... haven't decided yet.
