    PHWXL is compressed

Upon turning on my PC, when it gets to the loading screen it says this:

This is the first time this has happened, and it won't turn on at all. Safe mode isn't an option either.

My pc was working fine until I rebooted it. I recently started to compress some files, could this be why?

    Running windows 7 ultimate.

It's cause because the boot devices on your computer are not set correctly in your CMOS.

Take out all your flash drives, CDs, external HDDs, etc. Try rebooting.

If that doesn't work, get into your CMOS (by hitting F2, F1 or DEL, depending on what computer you have)
Make sure your hard drive settings/boot sequence is set up properly.
If it is, just change everything back to default.

If that doesn't fix it there's a few other steps you can take.

    that didn't work either.

I tried booting from a CD to reinstall, but before it can it says "PHWXL is compressed, ctrl alt delete to restart." again.

Most likely what happened was you compressed whatever PHWXL is and now it's failing the boot.

Your hard drive could either be corrupted now or the connection between your motherboard>hard drive isn't good (which errored the initial compression). Check your EIDE cables, plug them into a different segment or try a different cable.

I would start with spraying out your computer with compressed air, clean the connectors, & vaccum it out. Then take your hard drive out and blow it out. Try connecting it with another power supply cable (if your power supply has an extra one) & try using another EIDE. If you have multiple hard drives, just swap one power cord/cable with the other and switch spots. Or if you have two hard drives, unplug one, boot up your computer, see if it works. Unplug the other, see if it works. That way you can centralize if it's one or the other.

If this doesn't solve it; post your complete computer specs including: motherboard (model/manufacturer), HDD(s), & brand of computer (if any).
