Electric razors and toothbrushes

I'm so sick and tired of spending 17$ for a 4pack of razors, so sick and tired of having to shave in general, and sick and tired of being sick and tired.

I'm looking into trying an electric razor first off. I've never really used one before and have no idea what to buy. I was looking at some models in target earlier and think I'd prefer a foil instead of a rotary, but I don't want to spend more than 150$. I really hate shaving and don't do it too often. I don't need this perfectly smooth shave and razors leave me too irritated. I try to shave every other or every 2 days. Any one use electric and can recommend something or point me in the right direction? I might pick up this 80$ one at target today to try it out and return it if I don't like it... I think i can return it.

Now onto teeth.

I've wanted an electric toothbrush for as long as I cn remember but could never justify spending 100+ on one. Now though, I think I can. The thing is, the easiest way to justify buying one is to have more than one person use it. Using separate brush heads would solve this, but do I also need to invest in one with a uv cleaner thing? That would require me to buy the higher end soniccare flexcare one for $160. Is it really worth it?

Works pretty well and the self-cleaning station is nice to keep it running well and maintenance hassle-free. You still have to pay upkeep on an electric thanks to the cleaning kits and foil/blade replacements but they're a lot less frequent (18 months for blade and foil, probably every 3 months at worst for the cleaning kit). You also usually get multiple parts in a single upkeep buy so your dollar spent goes further and you have to spend it less often. This particular one is nice in how the foils and blades are designed in such a way that I can go several days without shaving and still use it without it tugging on my face when I do come back and shave (most will require you to shave every other day at minimum and if it gets any longer than that you'll have to use a trimmer edge before you can hit it with the standard foil). I'm not sure if that design has carried forward to their current systems or not.

Can't speak on the electric toothbrush, I've never personally seen a good scientific justification for one (but I've never really gone looking for one, either).

And quickly found out that the foil is better than the 3way foil, at least for me and my wicked hairy beard/neck. Always had to use a mechanical in most instances with the "3way" [dunno the real word for the design] due to hugeness in small areas.

I use a 3-head one like that one as well. Make absolutely sure that you get a wet/dry electric so you can use it with shave gel, which will really help cut down on irritiation. Also resist the urge to press the electric against your face at all, as attempting to get a super clean shave that way is almost sure to cause ingrown hairs and irritation. Just glide the razor over your skin, if it starts to leave stubble behind you can rotate or replace your blades.

As for electric toothbrush, I wouldn't spend more than 10 dollars. Just pick up a crest spinbrush or whatever. There's almost always coupons for them too in the sunday paper.

edit: and you're going to have to toss out your brush heads every 6 months, but replacements aren't too expensive either.

It's not bad at all. I need to pick up s shave gel or something though, and it is wet dry. It's actually a pretty solidly rated one so I might stick with it for a whille, wish it had self cleaning but target didn't have the good self cleaning models in stock. Not sure on foil vs rotary yet but this wasn't too bad. Seemed to miss a spot or 2 though, fucking whiskers growing in retarded directions.

Sort of on topic, but does anyone know of a good electric for shaving the genitals? They get done once a weekish but sometimes, before a date or going to a bar they can use a quick touch up.

(And yes I am being serious. Also tried google, but what comes up when searching for genital shaving isn't quite helpful...)

I was looking in to a new electric shaver as well. Luckily Christmas is near!


The Oral B pro is a great place to start out. I think its around $100 for the entire set, but its well worth the cost.

Luckily for me i work at retail and we get huge employee incentives every month on certain items. This month that flexcare is availabe for 68 bucks (100 dollar discount). I can actually pick up a couple i think, so if you really want one i might be able to hook you up just let me know. I hear very good things about it, even for its price tag. My dentist recommended a soniccare, but the price was just too much for me until now.

Ive been looking for an alternative to spending all this money on my fusion every month, either by going to a DE razor, or electric. Any one whos used both recommend going one way or the other?

Salo I'm using a fusion proglide now, and while it's the best razor I've ever used, it's why I made this thread. I'll let you know in a week or 2 of the electric was worth it. As far as the flexcare you mentioned, is it the one that comes with the UV cleaner? This one?

Bodygroom. Get it. We've had at least 2 or 3 multiple page threads dedicated to shaving parts of your body besides your face, so we know you are serious. Bodygroom is where its at. Mine recently broke and I need to get a new one, shits getting out of control and it takes too long with a razor. You can shave everything with it... everything. It won't bite, even though it is intimidating.

I replace the head and 2AA batteries in my Spinbrush every 5-6 months, which costs less than $10 per year. It's cheap, super effective, and I don't know if I could go back to a normal toothbrush after using my Spinbrush for the past 3 years.

I use a spinbrush as well, it's awesome compared to manual toothbrushes, but I just hear so many good things about the sonic stuff that I really want to give it a try.

Definitely good to move to an electric toothbrush, one of the best things I ever did for my tooth health. Way less effort and way cleaner teeth. I can't speak to the usefulness of the Sonic Care toothbrushes, but I do know that if we had kept empty boxes on the sales floor where I used to work because the high price made them a liability to have out on the sales floor. Instead we kept them in the back.

On the razor front, I use an old electric Norelco with terrible battery life, I have to plug it in every time I use it. Unfortunately the batteries you can't just pull out and put in new ones, it needs to be re-soldered. What I've read online is that it's not too easy. Anyone know how hard this would be to do or if it would be worth trying to get done at a repair shop? I'm pretty sure that's the problem with the razor. It works pretty well, but now it's hard to even get it to full power even when it's plugged in.

i saw this on amazon. my hair is naturally curly and hard to get a real close shave. can these still get the job done with thicker curly hair?

I use a similar Braun electric razor (not sure on the exact model), and it does the job well and gives a good shave everywhere except for the each side of my adam's apple, where it's more patchy (my hair is pretty thick as well). Not sure if it can be chalked up to hairs growing at weird angles but that's really the only problem I've had with mine.

yeah, im looking up reviews now, and it seems the majority of the ppl say the shave is generally close (to an electric shaver standards anyway) but just a tad bit expensive. i dont think the pricetag is too bad, tbh, but this is not something i shop for on a consistent basis. i just need something to clean up my face without having to go through the hassle of good old 'mach.
