Accessing userfiles off of older windows HD

OK, so I installed a new HD with win 7 on it and put the HD it replaced as the backup. I can access normal shit in the program files directory, but how do I get to the shit in the /users/my pictures or downloads or w/e? Also is there an easy way to delete all the old system files off to make more room? The last time I did this it took me a while to figure out how to do that and I had to basically set permissions 1 files at a time, which is fucking annoying.

take ownership of either (if the old drive has Windows XP/earlier) \Documents and Settings\ or (if the old drive has Vista/Win7) \Users\. Just take full ownership of the root folders under Properties / Security / Advanced / Owner / Edit... / select your current account / check-off Replace owner on subcontainers and objects. after that you should have full access to anything on the old drive.

Have you tried double clicking on the folder? It may give you the option to "permantently gain access" to the folder. Unless maybe you're running Home. Which has nerfed security options, unless you're in Safe Mode or edit the registry. Otherwise what you can do is take ownership of the drive, and it'll go in and change permissions on all the files. Properties->Security->Advanced->Owner and set yourself/local Admin group/whatever.
