    Obama on the Daily Show

Guess I should have posted this earlier in the week, but did anyone else catch this? It'll be on again later tonight for those of you who want to catch it but didn't see it. (And it'll be up online tomorrow I'm assuming)

In comparison to Stewart's normal interviews, it was obvious he wasn't interjecting as much as he normally does, but it is the freaking President of the United States.. He made some good points, although I definitely felt it would have been better had it been a longer interview and Stewart actually asked more questions.

He made some good points though. At the same time, I think this says more about the American people, but I feel most people should have expected that he wouldn't magically have been able to fix the economy overnight, so those points were kinda moot. Let's see.. what else.. Healthcare was a big deal and too many people (myself included) might make too big a deal about it, but I personally don't think they got 90% of what they wanted passed (although that might 've just been a number for argument's sake). Wish he had spent more time discussing partisanship specifically though, and specifically ways that he personally could work to fix it. I mean, yeah he can't do it alone, but personally I feel partisanship is one of the most crippling parts of our system. I really liked how he didn't blame either party in that regard though (not as much as he could have at least) and rather voiced his issue with the system in particular.

Have more points I could make.. but they're escaping me and probably won't come back till I watch it again tomorrow..

I would have to imagine the interview got cut short for time? They usually do that for major guests. Or was it just a succinct interview? That would be disappointing. This is like the third president they've had on in a month.

They gave him the full half hour, plus some. Didn't look like they cut it up at all either.

I liked his acknowledgement of the two problems that needed to be fixed for a modern congress: the filibuster and redistricting problems. Wish he had more to say about how to approach change in those and other structural problem areas in the near future.

i've been trying to tell people for a long time that Jon Stewart gives some great interviews and this one was no exception. I thought he did a great job of getting Obama to talk about things other than his talking points too, which probably ultimately helped Obama because it let him drive home his point that he's actually gotten a lot done in 2 years without repeating the same lines he's been saying at campaign rallies for the past 2 months.

Very smart of him to come on john's show. Considering his viewer base and the fact that (IMO) a lot of his views don't vote. The filibusterer thing makes me rage and i wish they would fix that shit. I do like that he noted the Dem did the same thing during bush's administration and didn't full on attack the R's only tho.

He's gotten a lot better in the last decade. I think he realized the power he had four or five years ago, and he's steadily learned to capitalize on that power.

    Apparently the CSM disagrees:

    http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Electio...st-Jon-Stewart

But within this lengthy discussion, Stewart allowed Obama the time to frame responses the way he (Obama, that is) wanted to. The host did not challenge the president when, for instance, he discussed unemployment largely in terms of how many jobs had been lost before Obama administration economic policies took effect.
Yes, Stewart did challenge the president on the effects of health reform – but from the left, not the right. The comedian at one point implied that the health bill had been “timid.”
Meh, I say to that. I mean, you don't throw the President of the United States under the bus on a late night comedy show if you are that show's host. That doesn't accomplish anything except fueling the extreme viewpoint talking heads.

How dare john not attack every point he tried to make!!!!! I'm pretty sure there were deals in place that, no matter what show the president went on, he could not be blind sided by an attack. I'm sure all the questions john asked were screened, etc, etc.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

I liked it a lot. For sure you know Jon has to be careful. But for any smart person watching it, it's always nice to have that reminder of how much has happened in the past two years.

Obama was on O'reilly, and Papa bear turned into Teddy bear during that interview.

They should just start putting laser pointer on the interviewer's forehead to get this point across, since people doesn't seem to get that
