Nintendo Co., Ltd. deeply regrets to announce that President Satoru Iwata passed away on July 11, 2015 due to a bile duct growth.

I don't really know what else to say, this is terrible news to hear, but I figured it more than merited its own thread.

That Miiverse and the EB texts were quite heartrending to me. I'll miss him appearing at the beginning and end of those videos. I wish him and his family the best.

An irreplaceable loss. It is as simple as that.

I feel for his family and friends, as they are most assuredly stricken with either surprise and grief or comfort knowing it was soon for him and that he can rest comfortably now.

The industry is lesser creatively without his presence, and it is a void that can only hope to be patched over though never replaced.

My bet is on Miyamoto taking over, I thought it was weird he was "no longer making hardware decisions" a few weeks ago. Now it makes complete sense.
