Iphone users with AT&T: Here's 1000 minutes banked into your rollover credit:

    http://www.9to5mac.com/51649/att-say...-bonus-minutes

AT&T is continuing to say thank you to their iPhone users who are sticking with them. Last week was a 20% off an accessory coupon and this week is a free extra 1000 rollover minutes. Some readers have sent in screenshots of the above, let us know if you received one, too. Thanks, Vinod.
Update: We are hearing that if you did not recieve the text just send the word “yes” to the 11113020 number and you will recieve a text that says your account has been credited! Anyone want to verify?
    Update 2: Confirmed below!
Update 3: There was some concern it was a scam but we’ve now verified it with AT&T – It’s legit.

AT&T playing this off fairly well. And I have to sit back and laugh at Verizon for getting completely shafted yesterday on their launch. I laughed pretty hard at how hyped this was for them to get next to no sales in stores yesterday.

Most people aren't going to flat out cancel their contracts and switch(me being one of them).

    I'd switch if...

    A) Verizon paid my early contract cancellation fee
    B) Verizon gave me an iPhone 4 for free (granted I give them my ATT iPhone 4)
    C) Verizon gave me talk/text/3g free for a whole year
    D) They had talk & surf at the same time

    Challenge accepted Verizon?

The surf and talk thing is bull shit by ATT, i could talk + surf as long as the phone supported it. Has nothing to do with the network(can talk and surf on a 1st gen droid).

I think surf and talk is related to the iPhone and not ATT. Afaik my droid can surf and talk, though I never tried. I can do more things at once when I'm talking to someone though.

AT&T just rolled out free mobile to mobile calling any time and day on any network, so this 1000 minute doesnt "cost" them anything now.

1st gen droid cannot talk and surf without wifi.

The only device on verizon that can use data + voice at the same time even with only 3g coverage is the HTC Thunderbolt which isn't out yet.

The talk+surf thing is not a big advantage for AT&T. I have tried many times to check my email when I am on the phone with my ATT Galaxy S only to see that I have just EDGE coverage and begin cursing the phone. Data and voice simultaneously only works over ATT's 3G. I only have ATT 3G when I am at the office or at lunch, at which point I have either wifi or a computer in front of me thus nullifying the benefit of having 3G to check my email while talking. The only time I really need that feature is when I am traveling and when I am traveling I almost never have ATT 3g coverage.

Doesnt have anything to do with the network, it's all about the phone. I can surf, text, talk, game, w/e all at the same time on ATT just using GPRS (2.5G) on my Palm Centro.

    No, it's the network.

Verizon and AT&T use different schemes for their 3G wireless networks. AT&T uses HSPA (frequently referred to as GSM, which is actually the 2G predecessor to HSPA), Verizon uses EV-DO.

HSPA uses separate voice and data channels, so that you can surf and talk. So long as the phone is designed to permit it, any HSPA device could do simultaneous voice and data.

EV-DO uses a single channel for voice and data, with voice given priority, so it is completely impossible for any EV-DO phone to do 3G data and voice simultaneously. It is not an iPhone thing or a Droid thing, it's a Verizon thing. Verizon's 3G network does not permit voice + data. Period.

There's a theoretical enhancement of EV-DO called SV-DO that could do voice + data, but no handsets or carriers have utilize it (probably because 3G is at the end of its life).

Their 2G networks (for what it matters) have the same problem. GSM (Edge), permits voice+data, albeit slowly. CDMA 2000 1x is a single channel.

For the forthcoming "4G" networks based on LTE, voice+data is possible, regardless of carrier. Verizon and AT&T are utilizing the same "4G" technology, because it has demonstrable advantages over WiMax for super-high speed mobile broadband given the geographical considerations of a big country like the USA.

Edit: Verizon phones with WiFi radios can do voice + data provided they are associated with a wireless access point, and utilize the wireless LAN for data instead of the cellular network, but that's a whole other can of worms. Works well if you're at home, at work, at a friend's place, etc. but not exactly useful on the go when there is no WiFi.

With the phases that Apple goes through yearly with their new iPhones I wouldn't buy one either. Its old in the tech world and we are due for a new iPhone with 4G and better capabilities. Verizon getting the iPhone 4 is only the gateway for Verizon getting all of the future iPhones on their network. Furthermore if you are referring to the video that was taken in Minnesota (IT, WAS, TAKEN, IN, MINNESOTA! You know if there was a sign for free food statewide no one would show up!) well that was Minnesota.

I don't even like iPhone and I'm white knighting it.

This is completely untrue, if you drop to 3G (Verizon has come out and said this) and you are on Voice, all data communications will stop until you either hang up the phone or drop back into a 4G zone. As said before 3G on Verizon is EV-DO REGARDLESS of the phone which means voice or data only (Since voice runs on the same channel) and voice is given priority.

I have unlimited messaging, when I switch to the unlimited mobile - any mobile...am I going to be charged another 20 dollars...? or does it only add the feature, and I'll keep getting charged as normal?

lolminutes. AT&T has got to try a little harder than that. I'm waiting for the competition to bring the iPhone4 cost down to next-to-nothing if I sign up (with either carrier) for 2 years.

Seeing deal-sites reporting this as available to all AT&T users, not just iphone users. Any confirmation? Is there any catch?
