    Need help finding Netbook

I am very computer savvy, I spend alot of time away from my apartment, so I really need something to do quick word documents and just browse the web, i.e a netbook.

I am kind of picky though and I have a couple requirments:

Has to have at least 1GB DDR3 and can be expanded to 2GB
Has to be 7200 RPM HDD

Not Acer? Heard horrible things, and experienced as well.

I want to keep it below 300, I have searched high and low, found one deal and when I went to get it at Best buy ( where I work), they didn't have it anymore, sold last 1 JUST as I went in. I have a headache from looking, and I need something. Is it possible to do it below 300 for what I ask? I can settle for 5400 RPM is it's DDR3 and a solid brand. Any help is awesome, thanks.

    Asus Eee are the best.

Just have to think about 10 or 12" screen, if you want it already with 2gb of ram, and if you want single core processor or dual core.

    You want a 6 cell battery, preferably a 60 watt+ one.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

just a note, if you're not in a rush google is still taking people to test their netbook:

    http://www.google.com/chromeos/pilot-program.html

My husband got one, it's not like the best of the best, but hey a free netbook is a free netbook so might as well give it a shot. Think he applied and got one a week later so if you don't get one by then you can look elsewhere.

Only problem is how is a regular joe gonna get one compared to say what your husband is ?_? I applied, I didn't get one ; ; Did he do it recently or when the promo came out? I thought it'd be over by now since they have a limited supply I think?

    EDIT*

Yeah, just checked out the link:
    Thanks for your interest.

1 GB is standard on a netbook, I haven't seen less ever. The upgradability to 2 GB isn't always standard, some Dells have the RAM soldered to the motherboard, and some HPs won't see a 2 GB chip.

7200 RPM drives are power hungry, and uncommon in such small machines. You'd have better luck finding one with an SSD or swapping out the drive yourself. SSD netbooks are rarely under $300. since they need a larger drive to have Win7 on them.

ya I dunno either, I applied too but didn't get one, he had told me they are starting a new wave of handouts though. I guess maybe ya he got it for working in movies or some shit, which is stupid because it's supposed to be for the average user. I put I was a grad student and didn't get one. But then they may have noticed we have the same address lol.

Oh my husband also has a nexus one so maybe thaat helped mentioning? 'cause it took a devoted google fan to fucking get one in the first place.

    Can't say I've seen any with a 7200, much less for $300-

Friend of mine has this guy and speaks positively of it, looks like it goes up to 4GB of DDR3, and I guess if you really needed you could swap out the HDD later on.

There was an HP with 1GB DDR3, with 7200RPM HDD with a N455 [processor + a non integrated graphics card for 250 but I lost out on that deal . I like ASUS, I just wish sites had a ram filter added to the search category.

Swear I posted last night... oh well

I'll vouch for eeePC once again, had the 1001PX, paid $260 for it with a 2 GB DDR2 soDIMM(2 screws to change the original 1 GB). Good design, good autonomy (6 cells battery) not sure if HDD is upgradeable though.

Should I focus on DDR3 strictly? Will it be that big of a change from DDR2? Either way, I am upgrading the 1 -> 2.

On all of the ASUS Eee's I've seen, the hard disk is exchangeable, it uses standard 2.5inch laptop hard disks. The problem is its very much inside, you've got to dismantle it it good ways to get to the disk. Also, after the new disk is in, you have to boot your OS install from either a flash drive you copied to or an external optical disk drive.

If you see a model you think you like, you can check the ram upgradability by plugging that model number into a ram website, like crucial and it will tell you if that model can be upgraded.

DDR2 is fine for a netbook.
