    AIM/Yahoo Instant Messenger issues

I'm not sure if anyone has experienced this, but Yahoo/AIM have been acting weird for me.

Yahoo won't display my friend's profile pictures, just a black square. I've tried the following to fix it:

    -Reinstalled Flash
    -Reinstalled Yahoo
    -Disabled Windows Firewall
    -Disabled Avast
    -Cleared cache

AIM is a bit weirder. When I use the AIM client I can't see anyone's buddy icon or set my own for the most part, for some reason it will let me use the sample pics that came with Windows 7 as my buddy icon, everything else is a no go. And when I chat with them their buddy icons are red Xs as well as smilies. However it seems to work fine when I use the web version of AIM. And if that wasn't odd enough if I use a different AIM screen name everything works just fine. I can set a buddy icon from any pic on my PC. And everything else works without a hitch I'm assuming. As for things I did tried to fix it:

    -Reinstalled Flash
    -Reinstalled AIM
    -Disabled Windows Firewall
    -Disabled Avast

Anyone have the above? If so how did you fix them?

Are you using the most recent versions or are you trying to use older ones?

What OS are you running? Assuming, Windows 7 (32 or 64)?

Yeah I reinstalled them, as for the OS: Windows 7 64-bit

    As for a small update:

-Adding a new person to Yahoo shows their avatar fine, not sure if an old contact refreshing their display image will fix that.
-Adding a new person on AIM changes nothing, still nothing for images on the client, and red Xs for them as well as smilies when I'm in a chat

I know it's not much of a solution, but you could use an IM consolidation program, like Trillian. Both convenient and may possibly "fix" your problem!

Get rid of both of them and get Pidgin, sign on both at once, profit

I probably will, but want to see if I can find any reasons for it in case it's something more serious.

I wonder.. there may be some corrupted files left behind, even when you uninstall Aim or Yahoo. Are you familiar with the hidden AppData folder that resides under C:\Users\<Your Name> ? You may try uninstalling both Yahoo and Aim and then looking for any folders in there that belong to Yahoo or AOL and wiping those out and reinstalling them. Rereading your post tells me it seems like a profile specific issue. It's a shot in the dark, but it's something to try.

I'll have to take a look at that.

EDIT: Nope, no dice on AIM

Tried Pidgin, no luck on avatars either. Not sure why this PC hates the Yahoo/AIM accounts I use.

I hope to god I don't have to do a full wipe (I know it sounds silly, but paranoid this could lead to something worse) since transferring files back and forth is a bitch.

Okay now AIM is working fine on this PC. I booted up my old PC, logged out from that, and now AIM is working. However old contacts on Yahoo still refuse to show up for lord knows what reason.
