The 14th Dalai Lama steps down as leader of Tibet.

This actually happened several days ago but naturally, because of the earthquake, has gone largely unnoticed.

I thought this deserved a topic at least cause he is a great man and also this marks a dramatic shift in the whole leadership structure of the Tibetan people.

In this age of despots attempting to forcibly put down protesters attempting to win democracy for themselves, I think it's some pretty cool shit.

this changes nothing. tibet won't be free as long as china doesn't want it to be free, and the world needs to accept that

Well he still wants to be the spiritual leader, just stepping down from the political side of things. Guess he finally found enlightenment.

shitty comparison, but you get point. there is no accepting the illegal occupation and massive human rights violations of the Chinese government.

there is 0 chance tibet becomes free within the next 200 years because of pressure on the chinese or uprisings. zero. none.

Unless you want to start a world war over the people of tibet, people need to move on and focus on things they can change.
