    Crafting Guild Support

I have always thought that the guild support did nothing unless the recipe called for the support. I recently asked a guild member to craft something for me, but since the recipe was like 5 ranks above him, he told me to wait while he went and grabbed support. I told him that support did nothing unless the recipe called for it. He then starting laughing and calling me nuts. Then the whole LS got involved, with about half agreeing with me and the other half saying we were nuts.

So, the question is, Does guild support raise your chance of success on recipes that does not require it? Has anyone done any testing on this, if so, can you point me in the right direction? I could have sworn there was even a "Ask the Dev" or something like that, that said it did nothing unless it was called for, but I can't seem to find it.

I would really like to find someone that has data to prove one way or the other, so if anyone has any data, or knows where I can find it, please let me know. Thanks!

Of course, just someone saying it does or doesn't really isn't going to prove anything. Looking for facts!

It only effects recipes that call for it.

My personal experience is it has an effect on all recipies. Try grinding on something 5 or so ranks above you with and without master support. I definately notice a difference

For every report of this, I've heard a conflicting report. So here's mine. I have not experienced any benefit outside recipes that ask for the support.

Everything I grind is 5-8 ranks above me, I never use support. (unless it is called for) I hardly ever fail, maybe 1 out of 15 crafts, and that is pushing it.

I was really hoping someone had done some testing on this with data to back it up. I guess I will try posting on the SE forums and maybe getting response from the devs about it...

Half ass response from the dev team. I think this means it does nothing now, but will in the future.....

We forwarded your concerns to the dev. team about the effects of guild support. They said they will be making the effects of guild support increase your skill rank while active, though the value will change depending on the equipment the recipe demands and the equipment you choose to wear.

The way support works now is just an annoying inconvenience. It's an arbitrary obstacle that forces you to run across town in order to do a synth you could otherwise complete successfully were it not a requirement. Stuff like training books you need to earn over long periods of time but support is available to everyone and not even expensive.

Not to mention if you need Guild/Master you better hope you're in the right city or you'll need to waste 3 aetheryte getting there and possibly another 3 getting back (like if it's for a leve).

Much rather they change it to just straight up temporary increase in level like in XI and get rid of the requirements for certain synths.

I don't mind it simply being an arbitrary obstacle and the system makes some sense, it could make a lot more sense. I feel like it should be:

No support: recipes that could honestly be done in the field with the most basic of equipment (
Common support ($): removes difficulty from recipes that call for slightly more sophisticated equipment (saw mill, ovens, looms, etc.). You have to be in town or at any camp to remove this difficulty.
Guild support ($$): removes difficulty from recipes that are extraordinarily complex (assembling bows, making fancy desserts, etc.). You have to visit your respective guild to remove this difficulty.
Master's support ($$$$$): does the same as guild support but also removes the difficulty of a training manual requirement that you don't have. This should be extra expensive to have a guild master helping you with shit you don't have training manuals for.

I don't like the idea of spamming support for every recipe just to boost success rate. I like the idea of it being recipe specific. Also, when there's some sort of transportation city in place, the anima issue should be non-existent.

Hmmm I have never had a local leve require anything but common support if you are not in the same city as the guild. Maybe I'm just lucky...

They can happen, but they are generally rare and hopefully an oversight. I know I used to come across one repeatedly as Culinarian. Gridanian-based "Better Baker's Bounty" which, at Rank-20, required Honey Muffins. It really used to fuck with my round-trip I would make around the cities for leves.

The only other leve I have even encountered that require Giuld Support was one for 30 Carpenter last night making Ash Longbows, luckily it was a Gridania leve.

BSM has one in Gridania, Making Headway, that has you making spearheads. Unfortunately, those require guild support, so you have to go to LL to make them safely.

Many of the 40+ BSM levee need guild support. One in Grid, 2 in LL. Only the Uldah leves are exempt, but one requires like 30ish leather.
