    Running Man (Korean Variety)

Do we got some Korean variety fans here? Well, I don't know about you, but Running Man is the best variety show ever! Shit is hilarious and entertaining.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Running...28TV_series%29

It's pretty much a hide and seek variety show with Korean celebrities running around in various locations in South Korea (and in later episodes, Thailand, Hong Kong and the fucking Great Wall of China). The cast is usually split into two groups, a mission team (hiders) versus the chasing team (seekers). Future episodes the game evolved into other different formats, with three or more teams competing to finish the missions first, 1 versus all, and stuff.

Never seen that actually though I imagine the TV show was at least inspired by the movie.

I hated Running Man when I was in Korea, but mostly because I don't like 유재석 very much. Give me 강심장 or 1박2일 any day... pre-강호동 dropping off the face of the Earth. Also, there's a variety show called 안녕하세요 대한민국 that's on Monday nights, iirc. No celebrities, but I had some friends that were really into it. I got into it after they started inviting me to their weekly viewing parties. Last, buy not least, 유희열의 스케치북 is my favorite music-oriented variety show. He invites on pop stars occasionally, but also gives a lot of time to indie groups, traditional music, and everything in between. 유희열's interviews are usually very entertaining as well.

The 1박2일 with 이근호 as a guest is one of my favorites. Fast forward to about 5:00 for 이승기 getting a soccer ball in the groin.

I like Kang Ho Dong, especially in Strong Heart, but personally I prefer Yoo Jae Suk's style. He just seems so much more friendly to me. I never got to watching 1 Night 2 Day because there is no prominent sub group for it (no understand Korean). But Yoo Jae Suk's version of 1N2D, Family Outing, was also one of my favorites. I just love the family atmosphere they had going on.

I love Korean entertainment. Many celebrities are so friendly with each other, and I'm sure this is due to their formal and caring culture. It's not like in the USA where everyone is so damn hostile toward one another. It's a shame. I would sure love to see variety shows featuring well known A-list celebrities doing normal shit together in a family oriented setting with comedy thrown into it.

I'm fortunate enough that I can watch KBS World on a local station. Not everything is subbed but many of the variety shows and documentary programs are, which is great for me since I don't understand a lick of Korean.

I'm not a huge fan of variety shows and I've never seen Running Man but I have heard/read a lot about it. I did watch Big Bang's epic entrance though! Also, I've really liked Star King and Strong Heart from the few episodes I've watched but I usually only follow it if my favorite idols are on (and avoid the ones that I dislike).

I used to love Star Golden Bell until they spent too much time interviewing the stars (around the time Nicole's segment was taken out) and I never really got into its replacement Oh My School. I really liked the first season of We Got Married and some of the couples in the second season but I guess it got cancelled because of the strikes (I think), which is sad because I started to really like Leeteuk and Kang Sora. Happy Together, Lets Go Dream Team, and Vitamin are other shows I follow from time to time as well.

I find the Korean culture fascinating as well so I like to follow the documentary programs as I gain a better understanding through that instead of watching idols vying for screen time. >_> VJs on the Scene is a good one where the entire program is a series of small reports about what people eat, do for fun, study, etc. Sketchbook is a great music program and I find the interviews to be the best part (thankfully they are subbed). Love in Asia follows interracial couples in Korea and the issues they face in their day to day lives; it's a great slice of life program.

I could go on and on but I will say that I wish I had access to the programming on SBS and MBC. If you can get access to KBS World (and MBC America I think), it is very much worth it.
