Console Headset Question

Not sure if this is the right place to put this, figured it was more for tech than general gaming.

I'm looking for a gaming headset for ps3, xbox, and computers that will do both in game sound and voice through the speakers. The thing is, I need it to be compatible with hdmi (I've seen some for xbox that don't allow you to use hdmi). I play on a 24inch computer monitor with no speakers, but has hdmi input. I just have a macbook as my computer for the time being so I'm not sure if that will prevent it from working with computer games or not, but its something I'm willing to deal with until I build myself a gaming pc around thanksgiving. I'm just not familiar enough with them to know if all of them fit what I'm looking for or not.

I'd like to keep it under 150 if possible, but if there is something that just blows everything else out of the water I'd be willing to put the extra cash towards it.

With all the new shooters coming out I figure its time to finally start playing with sound and actually chat with my friends while playing.

I'm a little confused.

Are you looking for a headset that will do voices through the headset.... but also through the speakers?

Or when you were referring to speakers, you meant the actual headset earpieces?

Yeah, pretty tired when I wrote that, I'll clean it up later after work.

What I need is a gaming headset with a mic attatched, that can make the in game sounds, and the voice come through the in ear speakers. The screen I play on doesn't have any speakers what so ever, so I've been playing without sound since mw2 first came out.

Last time I was in the market for them it seemed like none of them would let me use hdmi as my input because the component input on my xbox covers the hdmi port, so I kind of just gave up looking. Its been a while since then so I figured someone must have come up with a solution that would work for ps3 and xbox for hdmi. I heard it requires using the optical inputs on the xbox? Not really sure about that. I just need all the sound to come from the headset.

There's Turtle Beach ones that I know work with HDMI the way you're looking for but as far as I know there aren't any that are cross-platform, I might be wrong there though.

While it might not be the solution you're looking for, you're not stuck using HDMI for audio on the 360 just because your video is using that. While the regular A/V cable does block the HDMI port and vice versa, you can get around that by either removing some of the plastic on the A/V cable/port, or by getting a 360 audio adapter (as an example) - an official version was included with Microsoft's HDMI kit (and the original Elite that included an HDMI cable).

Ideally you could just use USB headphones + mic, but from what I've seen the consoles don't really support that outside workarounds like piping in game audio over a 3.5mm jack + headset functionality over USB - which is what stuff like the Turtle Beach Ear Force stuff does.

I use the HDMI audio adapter when I use my headphones. I'll grab the brand when I get home. They're good quality and only cost me about 30 bucks.

The only problem with the A/V work around is that my monitor only supports DVI and HDMI. I have a 40' TV but its 720p and 60hz, which I've found the delay is something I can't get used to. I'd prefer to just stick with my 1ms monitor. Thank you for all the input though. I think I may have to just go start buying headsets, seeing if they work then return them when they don't ><.

The adapter linked gives you audio outputs to use with RCA or optical, and still use HDMI for video. How would that interfere with using your monitor as a display?
