Slow PC

So recently my PC starting acting slow so I decided to do a reformat (I was due anyway), and my issue is still here. I recently had my video card fan (HD4870) act up, so I replaced my video card with a HD 5550.

Still my PC is not as responsive as I'd like. I would be able to 3 box ffxi easily if I wanted to, and thats not possible anymore.

What could it be and how can I test it?

You need to define 'slow' -- are games loading slow? Windows taking forever to boot? FFXI choppy? Could you 3 box in the past?

Slow as in if I minimize a window, I see it slowly maximize in slow motion.

FFXI is choppy, I could easily 3 box with no issues ever.

Sounds like you either have bad memory or HDD.

Try running Memtest86+ and doing a chkdsk then defrag on your HDD.

Its a SSD, I can't defrag that right? Maybe you can make sense of this on my SSD and see something wrong?

Based on running the same benchmark on my drive, your Sequential and Randoms on 512k are looking good, but your 4kb random reads are drastically below mine considering my SSD is a little slower than yours overall. Mine were 26.83 and 30.94 for my 4kb reads. But....I still don't see how that would really cause the problems you are seeing.

I would run memtest and check your memory. Also do a test on your video card.

How would I test my video card? I will run memtest when I'm home from work tonight or overnight so it can run for awhile. I let prime95 run for awhile last night and it returned no errors as well.

Also my windows assessment seems pretty good, would this show any issues?

Might not be related really but your old graphics card was much better than your new one. You went from a upper middle range card to the lowest of the low. I doubt it is causing overall slowness thou. Have you checked temps to make sure you aren't being throttled?

looks like you got a chip that's out.

When I got home, I pulled the second chip and reran memtest for 6 hours. It didnt do it again. I'm gonna run the chip I pulled solo tonight and see if it errors again.

I'm installing windows 7 on a HDD I had laying around to see if thats it.

When you open up a task manager, what does your CPU% and Memory % look like? Maybe you have a virus or something with a horrible memory leak.

Right now its CPU 30% and 1.52 GB (76%) on memory with 2 FFXI's open.

Its a new reformat as well, so unless its was something that could survive that its not a virus.

I installed win7 and then lagged my way thru voidwatch... so didn't get to it.

So I installed windows 7 on another drive and the lag was still there.

Then I ran memtest on each stick of ram individually for 5 hours and got no errors.... I'm out of ideas but my PC is still running horribly.
