What is the deal with the discounted prices list that says the game is $6.99 a month up till 2.0? What is it $9.99 or $6.99 a month?
3 dollars for initial character.
What I find more interesting is it may be may be more expensive than $12.99 post 2.0 based on this:
I mean I guess we could assume it'll be $10 forever, but I honestly can't imagine THAT'S the price model they'll adopt if they change it from $12.99.* The fee structure for after the release of FINAL FANTASY XIV Version 2.0 (including those of retainers) is unconfirmed at the time of writing.
Posted in the other thread already but this one won by 3 mins:
-Not including a free character with basic subscription; ridiculous and a bit insulting ("you can give us a monthly fee for nothing or you can pay an extra 3$ to play the game, your choice")
-Concept of paying for retainers at any point; like hell
I'd pay 6.99/month for 1 char on a game I'm not sure I'll be playing, but I think they're really pushing their luck.
Well, so much for hoping that "charge for more characters" shit would have ended.
TL;DR
Remember to remove payment on account tomorrow morning.
You won't be charged anything until after you re-confirm your account after they start billing anyway.
Also, of all times to make this announcement they choose to do it before a content-less*, already delayed update?
*squeaking moogle weapons notwithstanding
Does this not mean that you get 1 character?* The above price plan includes a save slot for one character and the 30 day basic service fee.
Even though this is crappy, they will be getting a ton more money from this than keeping it free. I suspect they will do a huge ad campaign when 2.0/PS3 gets released. It sucks for SE and us really, but it's the better option. If they continue to not charge, then we wouldn't get 2.0.
$9.99 = $6.99 (Basic Account) + $3.00 (Character Slot)
It's not that you get a free character if you pay $9.99 per month, it's just that they already added the costs.
Look at the prices in the table below. They have the two things I mentioned listed separately. The system is horribly messy, I love how character slots aren't subject to discounts.
Can't blame them though: saying "Total: $29.94" looks a lot better than "Total: $47.94".
SE really has a hard time of making shit that makes sense. How about they just write "$9.99 a month and you get one character, additional chars are $3 a month". Single fucking sentence.
This. They did it with XI too, why even mention a basic fee if it has no purpose to consumers. I like transparency in all things, but this is one time where they could simplify things and just leave us in the dark.
Also, fuck $3 for extra characters, that is so not worth it.
Because most people are stupid.
You might as well ask why everything everywhere since the beginning of time is priced at X.99
And they didn't do it with XI originally, there was no "basic service fee". Your first content ID was 12.95, subsequent chars/IDs were 1$. It wasn't until the stupid payment revamp/crysta BS that they changed it.
Hmm the way I'm interpreting it is *$9.99 is the new standard price when 2.0 comes out, but until 2.0 comes out they're dropping the price to *$6.99. I could be entirely wrong.
* Aforementioned prices include the basic service fee and character fee.
You're probably right, but it doesn't make sense to me have a table with "Previously Announced Rates" with our "new" fee then a big ass arrow pointing down to another table with "Discounted Rates Effective Until FINAL FANTASY XIV Version 2.0". $9.99 wasn't previously announced unless they're talking about the $12.99 to $9.99 statement above. Bah this makes my head hurt. I'll just wait until a Community Rep clarifies.
Yes it was. $9.99 was the cost of "Basic Service" when the game came out, plus $3.00 per character.
$12.99 every 30 days (Basic Service + 1 Character) was their original plan. Now it's going to be $9.99 every 30 days (Basic Service + 1 Character) until 2.0. Not taking bulk discounts into account.

How many are actually going to pay for it!?!
not me!
