    Notes:
    • Announcement;
      Spoiler: show
      Ben Stiller’s film career – perhaps more so than his contemporary comic actors – has managed to capture the attention of moviegoers of all ages. On the one hand, he is known to kids for the Madagascar and Night at the Museum franchises, while older fans remember his darker, more satirical work in films like Tropic Thunder, Zoolander and There’s Something about Mary.

      The announcement of Zoolander 2 seemed to indicate that he was ready to revisit some of his older-skewing material, but that film appears to have stalled as Stiller wraps production on his remake of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty (which is already earning positive buzz). Now – with his return as Derek Zoolander apparently on hold – Stiller looks like he’s ready to revisit another one of his most memorable characters.

      According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox is moving forward on a sequel to Stiller’s 2004 comedy DodgeBall: A True Underdog Story. That film starred Stiller as fitness guru White Goodman whose corporate gym threatens the existence of a rundown competitor run by Peter LaFleur (Vince Vaughn). The two end up entering a dodgeball tournament to settle the score and decide the fate of Peter’s gym.

      The sequel will be written by Clay Tarver – best known for the 2001 thriller Joy Ride – and will reportedly feature the Stiller and Vaughn characters joining forces against an even bigger threat. Stiller will also produce through his Red Hour Films production company.

      There’s no word at this point on who will play the common enemy that Stiller and Vaughn’s character will unite against, but given how often members of the so-called “Frat Pack” – the nickname granted to the group of funnymen that includes Stiller, Vaughn, Owen Wilson, Will Ferrell and Jack Black, among others – are keen to appear in each other films, don’t be surprised if a familiar face joins the cast.

      From a financial standpoint, DodgeBall 2 (or whatever the official title ends up being) is a no-brainer, as the original film earned $168 million worldwide on a $20 million budget. To many moviegoers, the film – thanks in no small part to Stiller’s ridiculously over-the-top villain (practically identical to his villainous fitness guru from Heavyweights) – remains one of the more enjoyable comedies of the 2000s. The fact that the sequel won’t hit theaters until at least a full decade after its predecessor has probably only whetted fans’ appetites for more.

      The sequel would also nicely offset the failure of Stiller and Vaughn’s last onscreen collaboration, The Watch, which was among last summer’s biggest disappointments. In fact, both actors seem intent to recapture their past successes. While Zoolander 2 remains a possibility for Stiller, Vaughn is set to join his Wedding Crashers co-star Wilson in The Internship in June.

      Still, the question remains if DodgeBall 2 can recapture the magic of the original film and both lure back longtime fans and attract new ones.

    Based on 90% of the movies that both of these guys have done since the first dodgeball, I'm very.... not excited for this. Albeit, I'll be very happy to be proven wrong.

    I have very low expectations for this. Going to be nearly impossible to top the first one.
