While pretty much flying under the radar (har har) for most game fans, it seems as though Wing Commander Saga: The Darkest Dawn racked up an impressive number of downloads in its first day of release two weeks ago. According to a post on VG247, the unauthorized, totally fan-made game was downloaded a whopping 50,000 times in its first 24 hours, at one point crashing the game’s website.

Said game co-creator, the mysterious Tolwyn:

“Swarms of users rushed to download the game client at nineteen hundred hours. Our release was met with such extraordinary demand that our website was unavailable at first due to server flooding.”

Didn't even know it existed. But I loved the old Wing Commander series. Might be worth a look.
