Purchasing a Safe

Silly question but anyone know of fairly cheap yet reliable safes out there? Looking into something about a foot long and wide or close to that range. Doesn't need to be fancy.

Let's just say I don't really trust the people where I live sometimes~

I have a similar safe that is very nice. (Same safe, but I'm not sure which model I have.) Never had any problems with the combination and it's quick/secure. I was skeptical of a 4 button combination at first, (Wouldn't take that long to just brute force your way in) but you're able to press buttons at the same time to add more combinations. I easily hold 2 pistols, a box of .45, some of my GFs jewelery, passports, documents, and there's still a bit of room.

Oh, and there's a tamper indicator if you don't trust your roommates/visitors/friends/whatever. If you press a certain button combination it'll blink red to say an incorrect attempt has been made or green if it was opened with a correct combination last.

Handgun safes come in a variety of sizes around the dimensions you listed. They are fairly reasonably priced according to features and size. I can't recommend a brand or speak for how reliable they are though.

Something this small isn't going to do you much good as that would be a very easily removed. And once taken it takes about 5 minutes with a hammer and chisel to pop. That is the downside if looking to secure items against theft. Fire and water protection you can find some reasonable safes, but to prevent theft look for something like this http://www.sentrysafe.com/Products/4...nic_FIRE-SAFE_ or a little bigger where you can bolt it to the floor or wall.

If you're buying a safe for a house (someplace you own, plan to live a while) get something solid that bolts to the floor. Generally the second worst thing you can do is have a safe that's small enough to be moved by hand, as it'll probably get taken whole, since safe=valuables.

Won't be terribly cheap, but there's some piece of mind in that you'll never come home to find it gone.

Yeah, my aunt and uncle got their safe stole by theft few years ago. Those movable type, even though it was pretty heavy. I think the total lost of the stuff inside the safe is over 30k as there are I-20 for my cousin, and some jewelry for my brother wedding too

That sentry safe linked above is actually sold at a lot of retailers. I know we have that exact model at my costco and the sam's cub locally has it as well.

also like patb said you can buy a similar sage at costco etc. Another place you can go shopping for safes is office depot/staples. neway I recommend getting a heavy one my safe had digi pad + key both were required to get inside also one step further many of these good safes have cut outs on the bottom and you can bolt them down to the floor to ensure someone doesn't just pick it up and walk out with it. The safe itself isn't very expensive.

I bought this one a few years back (not at this price, this particular one is pretty damn cheap). Weather/Fire proof and installs nicely (actually have this attached to my dresser next to my bed).

Before I got married, I lived with 4 guys and all of us were in some type of law enforcement/security field and we had a central safe (big thing that held 12 long arms and assorted small arms) that we hooked in to the living room. And dammit we never thought it would happen but we fucking got robbed one day and the little bastards didn't go after anything BUT the damn gun safe. Well it was made by Patriot and when it was recovered about a month later, i'm sure they took everything to the safe to crack it open except maybe C4 and it never broke open. We were able to open it (after a lot of work and great help/tips from the manufacturer) and all of our stuff was intact with no damage aside from some small scorching on the inside of the combination pad from probably a blowtorch. Swear by the brand to this day have 3 of them (one for the room where I keep the duty piece and extra clips, the big one with my AR and 870, and the one for the trunk of my car that holds all my tac gear and duty rifle).

I have a Bighorn Rhino 5942 gunsafe. Costed around $2500 but since I have about $20,000-25,000 in guns, relatively priceless family heirlooms, legal documents, and data storage I could justify the cost. For something small you'll be looking at a few hundred bucks, but someone that really wants it can waltz right out with it.
