    Linux tutoring

So I was asked recently to tutor on Linux and to come up with a price. I have no clue what to charge for a 1 on 1 tutoring session for linux. I was figuring $15 or $20 an hour would be good or is that too high?

This is very basic beginner linux stuff going into advanced, but starting out the person has no clue about linux and has never even booted up any distribution.

You need to factor in your own knowledge (are you certified in some way? Are you established in an industry in a way that's directly related to Linux?), how structured your curriculum is going to be, and how much time you're going to spend on preparing everything. The mistake that people often make when quoting amounts is forgetting all of the time they spend when they're not with the person (e.g., when you're preparing course materials before conducting the actual class), and you want to be paid for that time, too.

As such, let's say that you want to make a minimum of $10 an hour. You spend three hours creating a plan for your class, and one hour actually teaching it. You should charge $40 for that class.

Are there any classes in your area? Any personal trainers you can find on CraigsList or anywhere else? What do they charge? What do they cite as their experience? How does it compare to yours? Take that into consideration.

Tutoring for something that everyone who actually gives a damn about self-teaches? I foresee many headaches in your future. Charge at least $50/hr since they're obviously going to be both loaded and a terrible student.
