Regional Data Centers and World Transfers (06/05/2013)

To ensure players in all regions have an enjoyable experience in FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn, Worlds have been redistributed across newly established regional data centers as outlined below.

Characters from Version 1.0 will be automatically transferred to new Worlds bearing the same names as before.

Ridill Japan → Ridill Japan
Masamune Japan → Masamune Japan
Durandal Japan → Durandal Japan
Aegis Japan → Aegis Japan
Gungnir Japan → Gungnir Japan
Sargatanas Japan → Sargatanas North America/Europe
Balmung Japan → Balmung North America/Europe
Hyperion Japan → Hyperion North America/Europe
Excalibur Japan → Excalibur North America/Europe
Ragnarok Japan → Ragnarok North America/Europe

* Ragnarok is recommended for players in the European time zones. Please note this is a recommendation only; players from other regions are free to play on Ragnarok.

Most interesting thing I saw there is that the transfer requests will open mid-June, and the actual transfer will happen for the start of phase 4.

Anyone else realize, that's a shit fk ton of servers to launch with? Assuming they at least nix half the "new" worlds by launch, that still seems like a lot of Legacy and non Legacy servers. I always figured there would be only like 2-4 New servers. Also, fk, yet another scramble for world transfer service, here's hoping I can get in contact with all my friends.

Am I missing something? Where does it say how many new servers they're making? All I see are the 1.0 servers.

Well that's what I'm saying, say they at most cut those "New" servers in half to transfer to retail. That's still a lot of New servers... Blog Post First List yeah.

If it's any indicator, CE Edition in Amazon.jp sold out on the third day.

They'd sell out a lot faster if they only had say 10 copies versus 10000 is my point. So without knowing that figure it's hard to put "selling out" into perspective. Will retailers take the risk and stock a lot of this game given its status?

To the right of the page, there's an ARR specific advertisement banner. Kinda hard to believe they wouldn't stock up some amounts if they were to put that kind of thing up.

If you don't think SE is banking on this game selling a ton, you are in denial.

ARR easily made it into the top 100 on Amazon when pre-orders were made available and that was before any E3 action. If everything goes well for them at E3 next week then I'd expect ARR to sell like crazy, especially at a price of $39.99 and $29.99 for PS3 and PC respectively.

Also, If beta phase 1 and 2 are just a glimpse of what the game has to offer then there shouldn't be any doubt that it will be a solid game with a significant user base at the start.

Ultimately, few retailers are going to want to lose customers because they lack copies of the game. So, whether it sells a ton or not doesn't particularly matter to them. Their main goal is to get them on the site to make a purchase. Then afterwards by bombarding them with ads and other "suggestions" they hope to sell more to the consumer. You can see this happening at retail stores everywhere. All you need to do is go to the checkout isle.
