Kickstarter campaign: Eric's Poop Busters

Hi BG. I've started a kickstarter campaign to raise donations for a pooper scooper (say what!?) business I'm starting.

Times are tough for me as I can't land a job in my field (I'm a journalist), can't even get a minimum wage job, just received a reassessment on my tax return where I found out I owe $2100 that I can't afford, and have a mom who has been sick with vasculitis for a year.

Short Summary

Hello. My name is Eric Laganis and I'm from Bowmanville, Ontario. I'm a journalist but cutbacks in my industry have forced me to pursue other ventures.

I love animals and decided to start my own pet waste removal business.

What We Need & What You Get

I need $3,000 to help launch my business. The money will be used to pay for advertising, equipment and supplies. Most of the money will be used for advertising and creating a buzz for my business in the community.

The Impact

This business would be beneficial to the community as it would help to keep lawns free of waste, which would prevent people, particularly children, and their pets from accidentally touching waste and getting sick.

The Bowmanville/Courtice area also has a lot of farmland so my business would have the added benefit of preventing waste from contaminating groundwater sources.

So you want 3,000$ for what seems like 30 minutes of work with Microsoft Word and MS Paint for your logo?

Honestly you would be better off creating a narrative and applying for a SBG, Small Business Grant. The government is itching to toss out money for start up companies like yours who can prove your product can save money, and provide a positive impact on the environment.

I applied for funding a few months ago but was turned down. The Ontario government has not been too kind to my business. On top of that I'm in another program where the government will pay an employer my first two weeks' salary if they hire me but so far no one has hired me, and I've been in this program for 3 months. I've just had a shit ton of bad luck lately.

I wish you the best of luck, but this request for money strikes me as nothing more than a 10 minute internet form you completed and then cut and pasted in a couple places. I have never started my own business, but if you've ever watched the show Shark Tank, the panel of investors tends to ask very specific questions about business models, at what point you will start to turn a profit, etc. How did you come to the number 3,000, how would the funds be broken up and spent. What will be done with the money if you do not reach 3,000. What will you be doing in combination with the financial aspect to meet your business goals. What are your business goals? Is there competition within the community for this service? Is there demand in the community for this service? How many clients do you have right now? What kind of contract are they agreeing to?

My intent is not to be a dick, but unless there are a huge number of people on the internet who have larger hearts than I, with an expendable income, you're not going to get shit. Or, atleast you're not going to get paid for getting it.

I actually answered most of those questions in my funding application as I had to give a presentation to a three person panel but I was still turned down. If you don't want to donate that is fine, we all need our money for better things, but spreading the word would be cool too.

People are trying to see if you're worth giving money to. So far you're hurting yourself more than helping. We don't see a logo, we don't see a funny video, and we don't see a personality.

Take dollar shave club for example, its a reseller of an already cheap product but they made a video that made their business work.
