    So I got hacked

Got home from work today and noticed that my account was banned. I then noticed I had a character on account that I never made. I can only guess that I was hacked and after they striped my money they made a new character to ad spam with.

I have no idea where to go from here or what I need when I go to make a ticket.

Call SE. Get a token. About all you can do.

Did you use the same username/password for league of legends or anywhere else?

Why don't you have an authenticator?

There is a free app for an authenticator so just get that and should solve the problem once SE fixes the account.

The amount of people who haven't done this is mind boggling.

Anyway, what you need to do to start is open up a ticket using the SE Support site
    (https://support.na.square-enix.com/c...p?id=5382&la=1)

Once you've got your ticket number, CALL THEM. Do not wait for them to get in touch with you, they will take years.
(1-310-846-0345 :: No, they do NOT have a toll free. Fuck us, right?)

Follow the phone prompts as necessary, get things moving on that side.

Unfortunately, you're likely in for a bit of a process if they require you to verify your identity and what not.
I had to get my account recovered back in May and didn't get it back until a week before Phase 4.

Most of what I had to do was fill out a form they emailed me and have it notorized.
Hope you remember all the info you used when you registered the account...

Don't want to jump on the pile to make the OP feel worse but everyone should seriously take a look at the software authentication. Everyone has a smart phone, use it!

Yeah the smartphone authenticator apps are great and free. Theres literally no reason for anyone with a smart phone to not have it.

unless you just have faith in your knowledge of computers and the ability to use a password that isn't password don't want to have to type in your authentication code every time you log in

Doesn't always work out that way. My computer has always been clean but that didn't stop my battle.net account from being hijacked.

I am 99.9% sure I'll never get hacked. I don't feel like risking months of gameplay on that .1% chance. Putting in a 6 digit code from my phone which sits on my computer desk anyway, is not a hassle at all.

I still use my security token from 1.0 to log into FFXIV. Is it necessary to still use an authenticator app?

I use my XI one, and no.

Exactly, I punch it in maybe once a day. I figure I'm not going to lose any serious productivity with the extra second it takes, but I WILL lose productivity if my account ends up being hacked. It just makes sense.

Unfortunately i've been hacked back in the XI days, was essentially the reason I retired my account. Of course, this was before the Tokens came out, so I had no possible things I could do in addition to the password I rotated every 4 months.
Losing 4 years of work and having SE tell you that you can't have anything except the rare/ex gear (since it was dropped) back was absolutely crushing.
Can't even remember what I enumerated the losses to, but it was not small. Had about 3 full pages of gear/items that I could remember which I forwarded to SE. In the end I got less than a fraction back. At least I still had my Rajas ring...

I use unique, annoying long, randomized passwords for like everything. My WoW was hacked twice before they had the authenticator token, and I've had charges that weren't mine show up on iTunes more times than I can count. Luckily AMEX is the best at the business at forgiving all this stuff - but that does nothing to get your gaming life back.

In short, it's not all about trusting yourself or your gear. Mistakes happen on server-side too, and you have no control over that.

    Today, everyone isn't everyone.
But if my account gets hacked I don't care... that just means more Dragon's Crown time.

I can sympathize with this. I ran Linux for years with WoW and never logged in to my bnet account on anything else, had an authenticator, and both times I took it down for a few days at a time I got hacked almost instantaneously.

Both times with different actual passwords and emails, too. They just have your number.

Been bitten on the Blizz end, too. Of course it's never their fault.

I just wish XIV would save your password and allow at least a week of token memory on a trusted PC.
