    Boss Key Productions, the development studio founded by veteran videogame developers Cliff Bleszinski and Arjan Brussee, today announced the official title of its highly-anticipated first game: LawBreakers (formerly known by its codename, “Project BlueStreak”). This reveal followed a community-focused teaser campaign in which new clues were shared daily, and loyal fans earned VIP rewards ranging from future alpha or beta access to exclusive signed game art and more. Today’s announcement was accompanied by a that sets up the backstory of the warring factions battling it out in the unique LawBreakers universe.

    LawBreakers is a competitive team-based FPS set in an alternate future in which the world has been divided into two factions following a huge cataclysmic event known as ‘The Shattering’ that changed gravity forever. Afterward, the world recovered and ushered in a new age technological advancements providing gravity manipulation and supplement use that grants near-superhuman abilities. Now, the new technology rages and two forces fight for control; a peacekeeping organization charged with upholding the law, and a highly-organized crime syndicate bent on breaking it. Players will be asked to choose a side – it’s LAW versus BREAKERS.

    LawBreakers is an upcoming new first-person shooter in which even the laws of physics can be shattered, creating intense gravity-based combat and resulting in an ever-evolving and bloody arena.     Addressing how to make a new FPS stand out among heavyweights in the industry, the panel – titled “Surrounded by 800 lb Gorillas! Standing Up to the Competition” – also revealed LawBreakers’ shift in design to embrace a more mature look and feel, and gave attendees a first look at a revamped logo, game models and screenshots illustrating the new tone and attitude, which will feature variable gravity effects, unique roll-based movement systems and truly three-dimensional combat realized through grappling blades, reverse blind-firing, time dilation, jetpacks and more.

    “Being constantly compared to the current slew of colorful shooters on the market made us realize we needed to stand out from the crowd” Bleszinski continued. “We decided to take a step back and explore how we could dial up the maturity in LawBreakers, going back to our original vision. The new look and feel embraces the innovative and vertical nature of our game elevated by violence, intensity and competition.”

    Fans who want to be among the first to experience the R-Rated gravity-based combat and dominate the competition will have a chance to get their hands on LawBreakers at PAX East next month in booth #5116 in the Boston Convention Center. Everyone who plays will get exclusive swag and a chance to commemorate their best kill with a custom-made video clip.

    PS4 version announced
    PlayStation 4 gamers will be able to beat gravity into submission and compete in gravity-defying competition in LawBreakers, the new multiplayer first-person shooter (FPS) from renowned game designer Cliff Bleszinski and Boss Key Productions.

    LawBreakers will be enhanced for PS4 Pro and promises to challenge even the best players to bring their skills, get off the ground and deliver death from every angle as they experience thrilling fast-paced, omni-directional gunplay with innovative movement systems and combat abilities.

    From the mind of Bleszinski, LawBreakers is set in a brand new futuristic world where the laws of gravity have been turned upside down. A war between the Law and the Breakers rages across a variety of iconic locations such as the boiling oceans of the Santa Monica coastline to the gravity-ravaged Grand Canyon and beyond.

    Today Nexon also revealed its business model for the game which sees the base game starting at just $29.99. In addition, the company confirmed that there will be no season pass-style program and that all future content updates will be free. Also, there are no “pay-to-win” mechanics in the game, just a robust offering of cosmetics for players to earn via the game’s Stash-Box system.

    “With LawBreakers, we wanted to honor the skill-based FPS games of yesteryear, all while embracing the new and pushing the genre in our own unique way,” said Bleszinski. “We found that messing with gravity, and having it mess with the player, adds a dynamic vertical element that will challenge players of all skill levels to go above their limits.     CliffyB was just on Youtube's E3 Livestream talking about LawBreakers. He gives me a lot of faith in the game when he talks about it. I appreciate how pragmatic he is about the game's scale and development.

    R.I.P.
    LawBreakers Community,

    It has been a while since we said anything about LawBreakers. With that, the past four months at Boss Key Productions has been especially trying, as we pride ourselves at being communicative and transparent.

    So here is the very real truth, which may not come as a surprise.

    The fact is LawBreakers failed to find enough of an audience to generate the funds necessary to keep it sustained in the manner we had originally planned for and anticipated. And while a pivot to free-to-play may seem like easiest change to make, a change of this magnitude takes publishing planning and resources to do it.

    The team here has worked hard on this game over the past three and a half years and our studio is determined to give this game the second life it deserves. However, between now and then, we cannot sit idle. We will continue to support the game in its current state, but we also need to focus on other projects with fresh creative leaders. We have been working on something new and we can’t wait to share more about it! It’s a passion project that we’re in complete control of.
