{Kickstarter} Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous (Steam/GoG)

    Owlcat is at it again!

Some of you may remember Pathfinder: Kingmaker. After a tumultuous launch and numerous bug fixes and patches to the game, it ended up being one of my personal favorite CRPGs of all time, and one of the best DnD CRPGs ever made.

Owlcat is now aiming to make a new game set in the Pathfinder universe, this time in the Wrath of the Righteous setting.

As you may know, we at Owlcat Games have spent countless hours playing the Pathfinder tabletop RPG. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to bring this experience to the videogame format by creating a classic isometric party-based computer RPG called Pathfinder: Kingmaker. The phenomenal love and support shown for Kingmaker have inspired us to tell another story from the Age of Lost Omens. Today we are thrilled to introduce the adventure we are so passionate and excited about – Wrath of the Righteous!

Embark on a journey to a realm overrun by demons and rise to power by choosing one of six available Mythic Paths. Master their abilities and change the world around you as an Angel, a Lich, a Trickster, an Aeon, a Demon, or an Azata. Each Mythic Path leads to unique skills and appearance, and greatly impacts the game’s story.
Challenge the mighty Demon Lords and close the portal to the demonic plane of existence known as the Abyss.

Enjoy the flexibility, richness, and depth of the Pathfinder first edition ruleset. Create any character imaginable by choosing one of ten races, picking a particular class out of the 21 available, each with five archetypes for even greater customization. Gain access to more than a thousand spells, feats, and abilities, and select those that suit your playstyle. Take control of your party formation, help set up a camp, and find a way to victory by combining the strengths of your companions.
Lead the armies of the Fifth Crusade to victory in a new strategic layer of gameplay. In addition to the classic CRPG experience, step into the role of the Commander, gather troops, reinforce your stronghold, and send your armies to battle the demonic invasion across the map of the region. Send your crusaders to explore ancient ruins and recover powerful artifacts.
Experience a non-linear story about the cost of tremendous power that adventurers often seek, with tales of corruption caused by the demonic influence and redemption for those who have stepped on the wrong path.

Meet a new diverse cast of characters, including ten companions to recruit to your party and featuring multiple romance options to choose from.
Take control of five new classes (Arcanist, Bloodrager, Shaman, Oracle, and Witch) and meet a new race–the half-undead dhampir–in addition to the previous roster from Pathfinder: Kingmaker. The number of archetypes per class has increased to five as well.
Dive into the game even if you’re not familiar with the intricacies of the Pathfinder ruleset. Use an enhanced tutorial for newcomers to help you with character creation and get up to speed with the rules of the system.
Explore the world with updated visuals and a 360-degree rotating camera added for better playability and immersion.
The game is already funded, now we're working on stretch goals. If you never played Kingmaker you can pledge $43 and get both the new game and Kingmaker as a bundle.

Estimated date of release: June 2021. As with all Kickstarter projects, expect delays but seeing as they've already got their engine made and the kinks worked out via their experience with Kingmaker I'd also expect a pretty smooth dev cycle on this one. May see console release as one of the stretch goals, stay tuned.

    i got $5 on it

but yah nah i actually just grabbed Kingmaker during one of the big sales and so far it's blowing my nips off. feels like more of a spiritual successor to the Black Isle/Bioware era than PoE or D:OSII or anything else. glad to see they're going big for the sequel and it's already funded.

The Alpha is available for anyone who backed a high enough tier. Can also add alpha access for $15 on owlcat's website, though the value of that depends on you.

continues to blow my nips off

encountered a handful of bugs but game is in a p good state. everything feels refined over Kingmaker re combat, storytelling, graphics, sound. the sure volume of available races / classes / backgrounds /bloodlines is extremely impressive. some of the voice-acting is EXTREMELY UNFORTUANATE, and some of the dialogue is pedestrian, but otherwise darn good darn good so far. only a bit into Act 1 so we'll see how she holds up.

rocking a sorcerer-fighter atm finna head into Eldritch Knight / mage-hellknight prestiges. lawful evil Dhampir so p sure i have to take lich mythic but we'll see.

Man I can't put this game down. Decided to roleplay the standard crusader archetype as a Paladin and honestly the power fantasy has been real so far.

Ran into some hilarious bugs so far:

    1) eternally attacking an invisible zombie (had to go into turn based mode and run them about halfway across the map to disengage)
    2) Saw a friend get an underflow bug with a Camiella's rapier, doing 2 million damage a hit

I've been playing a Gendarme Cavlier, and while its a lot of fun, you have to manage your charges manually. If you set charge to auto, your cavalier will proc 300 AoOs as they charge spam from one corner of the battle to the other, and while its fun, its very, very painful.

Playing a charging, cleaving madman is hilarious, though. Much fun game.

the HoMM army thing is kind of fun. Till you fight gargoyles and a battle takes for-fucking-ever lol

I'm also a lot salty because one of my main companions left me due to story bullshit and now I don't know what I'm to do because they were some of my main DPS and my lockpicker... so fuck. Might have to figure out how to get enough gold to buy a level 8 merc or something idk

    never dump charisma

    ALSO
known bug re crusading mechanics, don't build training grounds my guys, your troops wind up dealing 10% damage to enemies instead of 110%. misplaced comma making these fights last 300 turns. i know it's a massive game and a smaller company but man some of these bugs are bad and (seemingly) easily fixed.

did get the first patch out right quick tho. dudes are putting in work just hope some of the bugs that cripple progression are knocked out asap.

Just got wrecked in an army fight against a level 1 army of 1 pack of wights and 1 pack of zombies. The wights kept nerfing everyone's stats with each hit, and we couldn't burn them down fast enough. Rangers were performing pitifully.

I think I'll skip that area until I either learn more or have better troops.

Good lord. Make sure you set aside at least 3 hours when you wanna retake Drezen lol especially if you're doing turn based mode.

So I've never played DnD or Pathfinder, but my girlfriend has played a fair bit of Pathfinder and a little DnD. How similar is this to how the tabletop game works, and do you guys think it would be a good fit for someone who likes Pathfinder but has little experience playing isometric RPGs?

In turn based mode it very much plays out like a table top RPG, and you can switch between turn based or real time at any moment (ie just stick to real time for trash and go turn based for big fights)

And watch what you set as an auto attack. IIRC you can only set one thing at a time, but you don't want to set something that will get you eating AoOs all the time.

it's an extremely faithful adaptation of the Pathfinder system as long as you're playing on turn-based mode. real time with pause speeds up the game but makes it significantly harder and less precise. thankfully as Kran says you can switch between the two on the fly. would say it's an excellent entry for a tabletop fan, especially as difficulty and the like are very customizable for someone new to CRPGs as they get their bearings.
