Next Tales of Game Announcement in Early June

The next Tales game will be announced in early June, Jump reveals this week. The venue for the announcement: Tales of Festival 2012, of course!

According to Tales Source, which gets Jump in advance, this week's issue of the Tales-friendly manga magazine lists the new game as "Next Tales Of...." Platform, price and release date are listed as TBA.

The magazine promises an announcement for Tales of Festival 2012, which will be held on June 2 and 3.

Tales Source also says to expect a commercial to be broadcast during Hey! Hey! Hey! on May 21 and May 28. It's unclear if this commercial is for Tales of Festival itself or for the new game.

Hopes raised. It's odd, because as I hear tell, the Tales Festival thing doesn't usually announce games, more of a "fans get together" type thing, I figured we would hear about a Director's Cut NA Version of Xillia (Playing/streaming the JP version now), and maybe Innocence R in NA as well. I would be a bit surprised to see a brand new tales game this soon after Xillia, though would very much welcome it.

31 games if you include everything. There's a handful of remakes and random shit like visual novel-like games in there, dunno if you'd count those.

Most of us already know that a new Tales title will be announced at the upcoming Tales of Festival 2012 this June 2 and 3. Next week's Jump Magazine confirms that the next Tales game will indeed be a mothership title.

We don't have a scan yet, but the source is reliable (Nore139's blog. He apparently gets the mag ealry). No news yet on the game itself. It's simply being labeled as "Next Tales of," with the platform, release date and price still set as to be announced. Apparently, there is a concept art that comes with the announcement, showing what seems to be a modern-day city, with what seems to be a running train going towards a faraway silhouette of many buildings.

Details will be given on Tales of Festival 2012, but it also says that there will be a commercial for it during the show "HEY! HEY! HEY!" on May 21st and May 28th. It's unclear of the commercial is for the game or for the Festival though.

I can't remember the last Tales game I actually enjoyed playing, everything to me has been fairly cut and paste from the last to the next, swap characters, and throw a wrench in the story telling machine to get something that is hopefully interesting out of it all.

Who knows maybe this could be the one that changes that for me, will watch from a distance and probably keep my hopes nail gunned to the floor.

Cut and paste and swap characters..? What? Clearly you can't remember the last one you enjoyed because you haven't played any recently rofl.
I can't necessarily say it is a good thing but Tales of Graces f (most recent one released stateside) doesn't even play like the other ones... I don't even know why anyone would make that statement with this game being the last one off the presses here.

Famitsu.com has posted a report about Namco Bandai's upcoming Tales announcement. The report says that the new game is a "mothership" title. This would put it in the same class as games like Xillia, Vesperia and Graces. It also means it's not a remake akin to Tales of Innocence R, and it's not a side-offering like Radiant Mythology.

Namco Bandai has not announced a platform or release timeframe for the new game. The announcement will come on June 2 at the Tales of Festival event. Tales Members can watch the event live. Namco Bandai will also be airing commercials for the new game during the Hey! Hey! Hey! broadcast on Fuji TV on the 21st and 28th.

Japanese blogs are pointing out similarities between the artwork and Tales of Xillia. You will see the language of the Elenpios (a people or city in or related to Xillia – I haven’t played the game, so I can’t be sure) in certain areas of the artwork.


Additionally, the “X” in “Next Tales of” is the same “X” found in the Tales of Xillia logo.

I'm going to echo the part of never getting my hopes up until they actually tell us if its being released anywhere but Japan... Too many Tales Games I've never been able to play to be excited.

Its a shame, Cause i played the shit out of Tales of Symphonia and Graces (F). Really amazing games... Theres one on the DS right now i think... I've been meaning to buy.

Will be watching around June 2nd just to see what we get and where... hopefully!

I didn't even notice that X looking like that. It might be that 'director's cut' people keep talking about. Xillia has been trademarked here in the west(NA/EU) earlier this year...so we'll see.

Doubt it's Director's Cut. ToS2 wasn't a mothership title so I'd be surprised if this was Xillia 2 too, but I guess we'll have to wait and see. I don't think the X means anything but the artwork does have a similar style, so it's not far fetched. I'm not really sure how they'd justify a second game though, especially when Xillia received a pretty bad reception from a lot of fans.

Admittedly I speak mostly of English fans (who probably mean absolutely nothing to Namdai), though I have seen a few Japanese fans speak out against it too. These are mostly die-hard fans who wound up annoyed at issues with the battle system. In terms of reviews and sales it did excellent so I guess they probably don't care either way. Personally I feel it's one of the weakest in the series in terms of characters, story and music. I don't really have any issue with the core battle system itself (even though I dislike the CC/AC system) but they implemented a silly break out system for bosses that ruined it for a lot of people. As for my "not justifying a sequel" I was mostly referring to the ending of the game though, but I suppose you could say the same about Symphonia and that got a sequel. It doesn't really leave anything open or any reason right now for the plot to continue, but they could write just about anything in I guess.

Similar to last week's Jump, this week's Famitsu has a teaser look at the new "Next Tales of" game that Namco Bandai will be announcing in early June. But unlike Jump, Famitsu managed to get some commentary from series producer Hideo Baba.

Baba confirmed that the game is indeed a mothership title. The catch phrase for the game is "Are you prepared to destroy the world for the girl?" This phrase apparently has some ties to both the story and gameplay systems.

Previous titles were "high fantasy" games with swords and magic. This time, the game will have a more modern theme. The game's world view will be thick with cultural elements.

Despite these changes, Baba assured that the game will have the Tales play feel. However, he also said to consider this the team's challenge to take the Tales series to the next stage.

Outside of the new Tales mothership game, Baba said that Namco Bandai has other Tales games in development.

He also commented on the the recent closure of Tales Studio. The studio's staff moved into Namco Bandai. He believes this change will have some positive effects, as members of the Tales team can move to the Idolmaster team, and members of the Soul Calibur and Taiko Drum Master teams come to the Tales team.

Doesn't sound like it will be Xillia 2 then given the more modern theme. Plot doesn't sound interesting from that but I guess we'll have to wait and see. Also I would totally play an IDOLM@STER game with Tales characters.
