Oklahoma legislature passes bill making performing abortions a felony

    http://www.cnn.com/2016/05/19/politi...iminalization/

The Oklahoma state legislature has passed a bill that would criminalize abortion procedures in the state. According to the language of the bill, anyone who is found to have performed an abortion -- except in instances to save the life of the mother -- will be found guilty of a felony and can receive up to three years in prison.

The bill now is on its way to Gov. Mary Fallin, a Republican, for final approval. The governor has not decided whether she will sign the bill, according to her spokesperson Michael McNutt, adding that she needs time to review the legislation. Once Fallin has the bill she has five business days to decide if she will approve the legislation.
on the bright side, it would take a Trump presidency to get enough justices onto SCOTUS to overturn Roe v. Wade so you have time to stock up on abortions

I hate saying something this dark on such a touchy subject, and know that I am 100% for legal, easy to access abortions...but maybe we need to make them illegal for a little bit. Let a woman die from a back alley abortion so that we can plaster her face all over until people see the real reason why it needs to be legal.

Or, maybe all the conservatives will just remember the reason why so we don't have to go back to those times.

Also they will have their licenses revoked. Technically their are a few other outs because of how they define abortion but all are medical reasons so yeah no elective abortions

I don't know if it needs to be illegal for a while, but there definitely needs to be a refocus on the simple pragmatism of it.
Abortions are going to happen, full stop. In light of that it behooves us to do what we can to make the process as safe and humane as is reasonably possibly.

First, you make it sound that there aren't already lots of women who are forced to turn to, for the lack of a better word, back alley abortions. Yes, abortions are not illegal in the US, but it's not like every woman has equal access to them. In many states, it has become harder and harder to get an abortion. If I'm not mistaken, there are several states that only have one clinic which can complete the procedure. Ignoring that aspect, there's already a monetary divide when it comes to abortions those who can spend up to $3,000, but on average $490 (based on an article about 2009 figures) versus those who cannot, but legislation like this only shifts that point -- so that those who can travel outside the US can have the procedure versus those who cannot.

Which brings me to m second point, look at some of the statements made by people who support legislation like this -- a lot of them are completely out of touch with the reality of abortions and still look at it as "oh, this woman got drunk one night, didn't practice safe sex, and now she regrets that she has to have a baby."

My favorite abortion fact in the US is that the majority of abortions are performed for women who already have one or more children.

Veto'd by the governor, nor because she opposes it, but because it's too vaguely worded.
