Ultimately, whether or not this particular shooting was justified is pretty irrelevant when you're looking at the scale of the reaction it set off.

This is going to wind up being a he said she said thing as there is no body cam footage, and police claim there was no book in his car, but he did have a gun on him.

Actually, no. I was implying (jokingly) that all the protesters/rioters see is blue when looking at a police officer of any race. Most moderately intelligent people understand that each of these shootings should be handled on a case by case basis, and that most officers are working on the force to "Protect and Serve" their communities or just making the best living they can. A very small minority actually on the force are there because of the personal power granted to them as law enforcement.

Not to toot my own horn (just wanted to use that phrase), but this situation is a good example of de-escalation. I could've gotten indignant and aggressive and lashed out; too many people do. Not enough people ask "why"; to try to understand the situation. They allow their initial emotional response to dictate their actions, without even attempting to learn more details. Actions should be taken only once things have been thought through.
