If you want a long and horny fictional history series, there's Jacqueline Carey's Kushiel/Naamah series. "Good" is up to your discretion.
I keep meaning to read it, but haven't yet, but Sam Sykes has a six book series that's D&D misadventure inspired, and a currently in progress series that's a love letter to Final Fantasy. And by his twitter antics, if the man isn't a BGer, I'd be hella surprised.
