Chained Echos - A fantastic SNES tyle turn based rpg (92% on Metacritic)

    Hey everyone,

I saw a thread about this in the general discussion thread but I thought it deserved it's own.

I feel like a lot of people on this forum would REALLY enjoy Chained Echos. It's a game that recently came out on most platforms that is basically a love letter to snes era rpgs with a lot of more modern QoL features. I'm nearing the end of my playthrough and am still constantly surprised by gameplay elements and story beats.

It's also free on Game Pass if that's your thing.

    Heck yeah!

If you like Chrono Trigger or FF6 there's almost no chance you won't like this game.

Some systems included in this game with a spoiler tag in case someone wants to go in totally blind
    Spoiler: show

    -Job classes
-No traditional exp. Bosses drop level up crystals that you can spend on skills you choose. Every few of these used also raise all stats.
-Battles reward SP, which can be used to level up specific skills.
-HP/MP is refilled after every battle making it so you actually use your skills and don't have to save everything for the boss at the end of the dungeon.
-All enemies visible on field and do not respawn unless you fully leave the zone.
-Most characters by the end of the game have options that let you build them in one of a few ways that vary greatly between the characters. For example, one of mine is a speed demon at this point that gets 3 turns before most enemies can act once.
-Reward Board - a board game like thing where you can unlock squares by completing tasks in the field.
-Crafting for upgrading weapons and armor (but not crafting NEW weapons or armor)
    -Crystals for socketing
    -Mechs
    -More that I'm forgetting

It's pretty good/decent, but I feel like the internet has overhyped it way too much.

Welp. After reading this and checking out the gameplay trailer I may have to get my hands on this.

I'm enjoying it quite a bit, the writing is mostly good. Some like B-movie level writing here and there with some stuff that's a little cringy but that's about it

Agreed about the writing but the overall story it's trying to tell is good enough for me and had some fun moments so far.

Also everything but the music was done by one guy so I'm giving that a pass.

Gave it to the wifey to play last night, came home from work today and she's already got a party of like 6 going and is zooming around. Guess it's a good game lol

I picked this up not knowing much about it. Just people saying it was a great game. 100% recommend. If you're a fan of SNES era RPG you'll love it. Beat it in about a week or two. Loved every aspect of it.
