    Bored? Make Cure Hilariously funny

this is to do with replacing DAT files

here's how to make your very own "Flipping Cure"!

first, go into your ROM directory and backup ROM/10/9.DAT

then go into ROM/13/39.DAT and copy it, rename the copy 9.DAT and put it in the ROM/10 folder.

now whenever you cast cure, your character will do a front flip like a rabbit =3

    enjoy

wow, this could almost keep me entertained at kirin

i was going to say this thread fails but i have to admit front flips are better than nothing, rateup

topic #2: i understand that using 3rd party programs is bad, but how exactly are swapping dats illegal? I know people jailed just because they bragged about swapping spells around... SE gives us all the fucking files, why can't we rename them how we like?

i guess it's just like how using windower with TParty plugin is bad, even though all it's doing is displaying information which is already there.

swapping DATs is messing with info that's already there /shrug

I would say that... it's the manipulation of the files to give ourselves a game advantage is what makes it illegal. Sure, it's poor design on their part, but it's like if a duping bug was found, people would still be banned for exploiting it even though it's SE's fault in the first place.

It's all about intention, it's unfair to your competition use .dat swapping for an advantage at Fafnir, Bloodsucker, or even finding coffers... but nobody is going to care if you're just making your character flip when you cure or making all your mithras naked or something. >_> It's also undetectable unless you say something...

I tried that, it was pretty sweey, although it made my mithra look like she has a broken back.

Any chance someone could give me the .DAT number for Dragon kick? I think that would be way sweeter than a brokeback flip

Changing dats is pretty much more illegal than the windower because of the advantage it could theoretically present you in certain situations. (Like removing darters so you can spam voke in Aery was). In certain situations like PVP, altering a dat animation for a spell might actually give you an advantage your not meant to have like... the ability to move when six mages are casting spells on you. Technically your fixing one of the most annoying glitches in the game, especially if your a thief trying to weaponskill on pulling your weapons out... however it's the whole unfair advantage thing. You can switch dats to help on a lot of things, I once turned oztroja coffers into something large so if they were tucked around a corner I could see them... yeah im a cheater. Anytime you directly tamper with a file that SE provides to you though your technically breaking the rules as harmless as it can be sometimes. Unlike the windower that doesn't really change any files. Most exploits have arisen from people altering their game files, so I'm sure you semi understand why they take a position.

The windower plugins for the most part don't give you an advantage, at the release of the TP plugin the GM's didn't understand how exactly people were seeing others TP and thought it was being pulled off the server somehow. In fact most of the first people getting caught weren't sure either so they couldn't defend themselves for getting caught.

Bots however give you an advantage, but because they don't change any of the files SE seems to allow them... as long as your present at your screen. It's not a stance I agree with but it's their position none the less.

I would have hoped that SE would one day condone dat swapping, in a sort of method where people with the knowhow to create things could submit them to a site that was monitored and certain alterations were approved and autoinstalled so that PC users could enhance their game without making SE have to panic too much... I don't think it's going to happen though so we all just do it on our own... personally I recolor a lot of the armor sets faces.

They added animation filters like a year ago or something. You can shut others casting on you animations off for instance. You still get stun-locked even without the animation. It's a really lame bug.

Windower plugins give you a much bigger advantage than dat swapping. But I don't consider the advantages of either to be significant. SE needs to get off it's lazy butt and make the game windowed.

WoW runs in windowed mode because Blizzard has basically what equates to spyware on your system watching what you do to catch hackers. WoW players agreed to this in the EULA. Might want to read it if you don't believe me. Blizzard is big brother omg. Lineage does the same thing pretty much (It is called the Warden). There are supposedly ways around both of them that allow users to hack in both games.

that's fine with me, i have no objection to it. Just program the fucking game so it works and doesn't need hacks just so i can LISTEN TO WINAMP

And as we well know, FFXI has no bots or hacks what so ever. Not allowing FFXI to run in windowed mode has prevented many problems, like people making bots to fish up rusty items and selling them causing all kinds of horrible inflation crippling the game economy.

LOL I am not saying FFXI has no bots (it is full of them.. like alot of MMOs).. I am saying there is not a program that keeps a log of every program you run, file you use.. and a key log of what you search for. You search for hacks while running WoW, then Blizzard will know about it. They probably know what porn you are d/ling atm. Yeah SE fails at making a windower.... They also failed by making a MMO cross platform and thus making POL necessary. We have a windower anyway.. it lets you do these things.. but also allows hackers to thrive.

Blizzard had to make you sign a EULA to allow them to run a form of spyware.. they run a game that is composed of mostly XML.. the amount of hacking that can be done without them watching is hilarious.. nevermind the huge amount of client side info WoW has.

Even the wow guardian isn't foolproof but I think SE would benefit from something like it's implementation from at least the GM's stantpoints and making them more useful.

GM's could use more tools imho.

Blizzard has been using spyware in their games for awhile now... They aren't a trustworthy company. If you played DiabloII during the mass bannings you'd know their EULA is setup so they don't need any reason to delete your account. A few of my friends and I were banned in DiabloII simply for "making games too quickly", that's fair! Just wait for them to stop making a profit on the servers and you'll start to see the bullshit. I'm sure you've already seen some of it with the queues and server downs . (FYI they started that in DiabloII shortly before the mass random bannings)

Good thing WoW sucks, no reasons to join a game made for kids complete with spyware and 1337 speak.

Also not allowing windowing just gives the FFXI team more time to stop any hacks used in the game, assuming they make use of a windowed FFXI (which most do). All they need to do is change a few lines of code that will break the windower for a few days then work on the hack. Remember all the times the windower broke back when a bunch of hacks got really popular? Yeah, they weren't trying to get rid of windower. It's not like azarils windower is some big secret from SE, if they really wanted to get rid of it, it would be gone by now.

At least blizzard is doing something about it rather than turning the blind eye toward problems like these. This is really not that big of a deal, Valve has been doing something similar with VAC, I'm not sure it is as invasive though.
