In Saturday's game against JoePa's Nittany Lions, 1st year Wisconsin Head Coach Brett Bielema completely exploited the new rules that state on kickoffs the clock starts as soon as the ball is kicked.

I haven't liked the new rule all year. A better solution would be to just not stop the clock on a first down to move the chains like the NFL.

Also, I realize that being offside gives an advantage to your coverage, but you have to remember that every kickoff is a free play for the return team. They could eventually run it back. Penn State should have just lateraled it a bunch of times or declined the penalty (since it isn’t a dead ball penalty) so Wisconsin couldn't kick it off anymore.

One sort of off topic thing I'll never get is how basketball used to not have a shot clock. I don't get how the sport ever survived back then.

The key was watching Bielema (the 2nd youngest D-I coach at 37 years old) try not to smirk on the sidelines as he executed this awesome and brilliant exploit and watching JoePa (right before we ended his ability to stand) on the sidelines going nuts. Wisconsin is 9-1 now, with it's only loss to #2 Michigan.

It was dirty. And yes it's coule be an opportunity for a free play on the receiving team, but when the kicking team has a 10-15 yard head start there's basically no chance for a return anyway.
