PUP + BST small group xp

So i had a very fun and suprisingly effective xp session with a BST last night. I was PUP62, he was BST61. We both subbed whm, not quite knowing how it would work. We went to the area west of Nashmau and killed Marsh Murre. He used mainly the saplings in the area to pull and tank, and after letting his pet engage, the bst, me and Jackstraw my Automaton piled on. I was using a full stormwaker setup, slow rolling the nukes until late in the fight. Amazingly, the hate seemed to be well distributed and the bst pet kept hate almost all of the time. With 4 people pounding on it and lots of WS, the mobs were going down pretty quick, and we were getting chain4 routinely, with xp ranging from mid 80s to 220s. The Bst was impressed and said we were killing at a clip just above what hes used to solo and would do it again. The way I see it, with our damage spread between multiple sources and ability to heal ourselves, we make a great companion for small party play with BSTs. The timing and hate just...worked. And it was hella fun.

so...has anyone done any other small group xp sessions like this, especially with a BST and in the 60s range? I'm looking for some tips and more duo xp spots for next time (since I lvld up to 63 after winning the ENM afterwards). I suppose a run-and-gun standard xp party is a bit faster, but this was steady enough xp to not feel like a waste, only involved two of us instead of 6, and a VERY fun change of pace.

Looks like tigers might be good prey soon...but I dont have eraser for paralyna yet. Was digging Sanction refresh for stoneskinning and light cures...

If the pet keeps hate well enough, you could use Sharpshot, so long as it doesn't get your Sharpshot killed (which it most likely would lol). Or, if you use full Stormwaker, can just go PUP/WAR and let your automaton heal you (and let the BST/WHM heal himself).

Overall, PUP duos with another PUP or a BST are fun. I've done it before (2x PUPs) and works really well for fast xp. Two PUP/NIN with Stormwakers fast chaining T mobs is probably best.

still thought bst is stastically better with the gear options and high axe skill so why not just go for that instead?

Two BSTs have historically proven very effective, as well.

I was suggesting two PUP/NINs from a PUP perspective.

However, since MNKs are statistically better with gear options and high H2H skill, why not duo MNK instead?

The reason two PUP/NINs with Stormwakers work well is because they never need to rest, and their automatons can debuff, cure, and erase. You can just chain nonstop.

I'm not a BST so I can't comment on BST's ability to do the same thing (chain indefinitely without rest), but we already know BST duos work well so its a moot point.

I've always noticed less effectiveness when mixing jobs for duos.. e.g. 2x of the same job always seem to do better than 2 different jobs, from my experiences as SMN, PUP, and RDM/NIN duos.

BST can duo for 7-8k exp per hour in the right places and zones, aka ToAU zones. puks, colibris etc are so much more weaker enemys compared to the zilart, CoP enemys a BST have to encounter, and they respawn very fast. 2x BST + Bee pet in Wajaom Woodlands from lvl 61-63 = double win 7-8k exp per hour :D

NIN and RDM are really good duo

edit: assuming rdm is geared right

While completely off topic, I've been doing duo BLM 20 + 19 in Qufim on Gigas Leeches for very safe, fast EXP. Still thought I should mention :3

Not sure but I'm thinking Bibiki Bay? Maybe that's too high though. You might be able to pull off Mamool Ja's Raptors.

Hmm... are you sure? I've seen SMN's one shot them with Predator Claws for 1500 damage.

I'm almost certain they have more than that. Every time I have to fight a Stabler, the pet is pretty much just as annoying as the master.

Note to Kalia: Add damage-per-fight view to Dvsparse.

Hmmm I wouldn't doubt it, the Fomor Beastmaster's pets have large HPs as well. I'll look into it.

so...has anyone done any other small group xp sessions like this, especially with a BST and in the 60s range? I'm looking for some tips and more duo xp spots for next time (since I lvld up to 63 after winning the ENM afterwards). I suppose a run-and-gun standard xp party is a bit faster, but this was steady enough xp to not feel like a waste, only involved two of us instead of 6, and a VERY fun change of pace.
My DRG friend and myself (on PUP) did basically the same thing from 60-70. It was VERY easy to get chain 4-5, and when we got the hang of it, we always managed to pull in at least 7k per hour (and this was before the new automaton weaponskills). Colibris were our enemy of choice, if another party showed up we didn't really care, we could always outpull them. DRG would tank, wyvern heal us both, Super Jump to my puppet when/if hp was an issue, and with Flashbulb me as /WHM we did pretty good for ourselves since we didn't need to wait for any hard-to-find jobs to show up.

Also, I find PUP to be an amazingly effective farming job. Set it up with Mana Converter/Mana Tank and Damage Gauge/Auto Repair Kit and you can kill things endlessly.

ToAU bst pets have regular HP, not pet HP.

Lesser Colibiri are all T or less at 63 i think and should start to fall off xp-wise at 64 if not now at 63 Id think. Where did you camp exactly on the way to 70 at different lvl ranges? Anyone tried tigers for xp? When are normal colibiri weak enough for a smaller party? Anyone tried Quigrn in the graveyard near Nashmau? Somewhere in Aydeewa maybe (man i love worm xp when it works)?

I think the Ranger would get pwnt in this setup. Hell, the RNG pulls hate in 6 man parties on birds alot of the times that Daze goes off. The Stromwaker did pull hate sometimes with Knockout or if i started laying on the Ice nukes too early, and his cure4s were invaluable several times. /war might indeed work though, but stoneskin and heals and regen and sneak were nice to have especially with sanction refresh. Not sure if /war would have sped up kills enough to be worth the loss of utility.

I'm a PUP.... thats why im not pursuing 2 BST duo setup lol. I had such a good time doing it that I started the thread since there is very little info on PUP small party play, especially serious talk for the later levels. BST small party play is well charted territory.

The hate balance really was suprisingly controllable, and my debuffs and flash etc added alot to the setup that a 2nd bst would not have. Really, we both had different contributions that added up together very well. Not being a BST, I cant say how effective 2 BST duo is compared to this, but the combo did not feel lopsided by having 2 different jobs.

With my limited time to play and lack of people seeking when I can play on Siren quite often, I'm looking forward to trying variations on this out more often now. Any other Siren peeps near 63 with a good job to pair with my PUP, send me a /tell.

See, this is what I never ever understood. People will invite a PUP, but will not invite a BST. There is no logic in that, especially when a good BST can outdo most all PUPs.
