Monitor burn-in

I keep getting things burnt in on my laptop monitor, for example when I right click on my msn icon and select it to show messenger, the highlighted "show messenger" option doesn't go away, even when the menu isn't selected. I can get rid of it by changing my resolution back and forth but I have to do it every time it happens and it's getting irritating.

Burn-in is where the actually SCREEN shows the image even when powered off. This is not an issue unless you have a non-TFT LCD display (Read: EXTREMELY old laptops). What you have is an image lag.

Depending on the specs of your laptop, I'd suspect a memory issue first... and possibly a video card issue second.

I'd do a spring cleaning of your startup, do a memory test on your ram (wouldn't hurt), and consider adding another stick of memory.

I don't think it's that..I've got a Dell XPS M1710, 1gig of ram, 2X2gig processors, Nvidia Geforce Go 7900 GS. How would I go about doing a memory test on my ram? And I clean out my startup regularly, did it yesterday actually lol.

restart the system, tap F12 at boot.

Select "Diagnostics" on the boot menu

It's LOL, but if you have a major problem, it should pick it up...

Nothing came up in the test, and I've right clicked and selected things a load of times and it hasn't happened again yet..will post again if it does happen.

It's only done this once before, not sure what caused it then either :/
