Chocobo Breeding: Vomp Carrot vs Carrot Paste?

What's the difference? I've tried using Carrot Paste once and I noted that it seemed to fill up the chocobo less... I would guess that because you can feed the chocobo more of it, it's better for the stats?

I have no idea to be honest, can anyone shed some light on this?

I'm far from a choco breeding expert but what I was told by people who know a lot more than I is that the paste is for young chicks because it's easier for them to digest.

If you try to feed a whole carrot to a chick it will give you some message that it is trying to choke down the carrot. I guess it's SE's answer to baby food. It would make sense then that it fills the chick up less. I have no idea though what the benefits of feeding a chick paste vs whole carrots is but it doesn't seem to have a huge effect on the outcome of your choco.

I've raised ten birds now, and have raised every single one on whole carrots from the day they were hatched. I've never once had any message like that.

Babies eat whole carrots just fine.

they hate you more or something if you do carrots instead of paste. They get filled up really fast on the actual carrots

    Er, hmm...

so has anyone used Carrot Paste in large amounts? I'm not sure what I should spend my chocobucks on.

I think that you feed it more pastes might make your bond increase more than with carrots. I didn't notice my stats go up faster when I used pastes on my most recent chick compared to carrots.

I think I only did them because I can HQ them so it was cheaper. I don't remember what the numbers were though offhand.

Two chocobos ago, I used carrot paste for the first 18 days (well day 4 through day 18), but I seem to remember it only taking 2 pastes to go from starving to completely full, versus vomp carrots take 3, so the suggestion that they are better because you can give them more is wrong, I'm pretty sure.

As for their overall effect, that particular chocobo's stats rose slower than subsequent vomp-carrot only chocobos, but I've consistently tweaked how I raise them so it could be due to other factors.

You get a choking down message if you overfeed your chocobo. Three carrots a day leads to a happy, healthy chocobo.

Yeah, thats what I always do.

The first bird I tried, I did use the Carrot Paste, all the way to when I ended him at day 90ish. I have since used the whole carrt technique the same way, and it seems to me that whole carrots will raise the stats at least twice as fast. My current bird is on day 26 feeding nothing but Zegham carrots, and just obtained Average Receptivity, where the carrot paste bird took until day 70something before it finally reached Average status and ultimatelly capped out on status improvements.

I'm guessing your first chocobo was started before the patch that made stat growth faster? Because food makes practically no difference whatsoever in stat growth.

I've honestly notcied very minimal difference in stat growth based on the food given, but that might just be me. I've raised a few birds now, and my advice to friends is to just feed them greens (since that helps build a lot of bond, and its cheap/fast to get), and then just go heavily on the actual plans once they are able to.

Especially with the higher level plans when they reach adulthood, they take away a lot of bond. Keeping them happy with the greens(and walks) while pushing the higher level plans has always worked for me maxing out the stats I want pretty fast. Again thats just my own personal preference though, but food for thought I guess.
