Thf dagger order, can i have it

    /em hides, noob question

If theres any endgame thfs that could just reply with like a list of daggers to get from 46 to 75 I would really appreciate it.I understand that it probably is all situatiional, like for soloing and meat vs. sushi etc...

This is my next job im taking to 75 and I dont have a parser so its hard for me to always tell whats the better buy.

right now fed. kukri / marauders knife
    have 2 bone+1 for 46, im 45 currently

if anyone can just do like exp setup daggers, that would be hot. Oh btw, whats up with this hornet needle. I just got it, and some ppl told me yesterday it sucks now from a tp floor? ; ; I dont understand, the delay looks amazing.

    I went Bone Knife+1/Hornetneedle,

    then Corsair Knife/HN

kept that all the way to Darksteel Kukri+1/WAR

at 59, you have [assuming a merit] Dancing Edge, and /WAR trades 3 shadows and 15% Dual Wield for 10% Double Attack [which can proc on WS for massive damage] and Zerk. At 72 with Suppa and Sirocco, /nin is certainly viable again.

Your millage may vary, /NIN is a strong/common choice but I did a ton more damage as /WAR on ToAU mobs.

    Cermet Kukri +1
    (Hoplites) Harpe
    Magnet knife
    Blau

I'm @ 48 thf as of last night lol. I sub nin for now.

I'm using Bone Knife+1/Hornetneedle and I think it preforms greatly. I'll get my hands on a Corsairs Knife at 50. But about 99% of the time I have on average ~120% to spend once SATA timers are up.

    Current set up:
    Daggers: Bone+1/HN
Head: Noct +1 (Yeah yeah.. But Ive not gotten VE to put out for me;; )
    Body: Brigandine
    Neck: Spike Necklace
    Hands: Hume RSE
    Earrings: Drone x2
    Rings: Rajas/Woodsman + Deft ring
    Legs: Noct +1
    Feet: Leaping boots
    Back: Nomads Mantle
    Waist: Life Belt

I realize that my gear is subpar and my excuse is that I just started playing again and have 0 moneys, but I still think I do well considering. ;]

Any suggestions are welcome, and please note that Ive invested 2 merits into dagger skill.

p.s. My rajas is on the left hand side.

When I lvled THF, there was no TOAU, and 99.9% of the time, I pulled so /war wasnt an option rly, although it certainly is nice.

I think I did what someone else said though

    bone+1/hn
    corsair/hn
    harpe/ridill

Yeah Yeah I exp'd with my Ridill, made my static brd give us Madrigal/Minuet so I could hit with it @ 70 lol

I didnt get Sirocco til long after I was 75. But now, depending on the mob and its evasion, I will go P. Harpe/Ridill or, P. Harpe/Sirocco

Get a Viking shield, go /WAR whenever you've got a real tank and aren't pulling raptors up to 74

    50: Corsair's (/Hornet if /NIN)
    59: Darksteel Kukri+1 (/Chicken if /NIN)
    62: Cermet Kukri +1
    68: H.Harpe or Harpe (/H.Harpe if /NIN)
70: Magnet Knife minimum (Harpe is still better though)
    Behemoth+1 also respectable

71+ In order of general attainability and preference:
    Mainhands:
    H.Harpe -> Magnet -> Behemoth+1 -> Harpe -> Blau dolch -> X's -> relics
    Honorable mentions:
    - Stylet and Matron's are respectable but elusive/expensive
    - P.Harpe and Adder+1 are very strong but even more elusive/expensive
    - Martial knife is "okay" if you're doing Shark bite skillchains only

    Offhands:
    Misericorde(+1) -> Daylight -> Sirocco -> Blau dolch*
*offhand Blau only to higher DMG weapons such as X's, Harpe, and P.Harpe
    Honorable mentions:
    - Stylet and Matron's are also suitable for offhand use, but not compelling enough to justify the time investment IMO

    QFT.

Also, mess around with /war + sirocco kukri. Sounds crazy, but go parse it and see what you find. If you have the gear to allow meat and haste with a kukri, it's DAMN addicting. :D

So, my THF is only 38, but it's going to be my next job up after NIN. I was going to break this Heart Snatcher I picked up on my NIN while I leveled my THF. I'm assuming it's not worth it, not seeing it on the list... lol

I'm seeing hornetneedle a lot, I wasn't expecting that. I thought after the TP changes low delay/low damage daggers weren't so attractive any more? I could see using it for more triple attack chances, but triple attack is 55 and the dagger is 48. I was thinking a bone knife +1 or another corsair's knife after 50 in the offhand slot if I was subbing NIN.

I'm probably missing something here (my THF is all of 38), but why hornetneedle? While I'm asking THF-newb questions, why darksteel kurki +1 over corsair's knife? Is two base damage on your mainhand weapon more important than +10 ATK?

I don't know why Hornetneedle either. But it seems that most players, thieves included, are simply obsessed with looking like they hit non-stop.

Bone Knife+1's at 48, Corsair's can replace one, unless there's a ToAU dagger I don't think I'd upgrade until Chicken Knife or the darksteel one at 59.

Though I'm also not sure why anyone needs /nin at that level. There are 3 main things for thief to consider at lower levels: accuracy, attack, pulling. You can only choose 2 at a time for the most part, /nin locks pulling safety, so you can choose accuracy or attack. /war locks attack. I'd rather have acc/attack than one/pulling, since skill can actually effect pulling, but not accuracy or attack. Yes, this is a simplified way of looking at it, but for the most part it fits.

Hornetneedle isn't a pure TP engine like it once was, but it still has very good DPS for a certain level range (6.40 versus 5.68 on Bone+1). You can compare the secondary bonuses on those weapons with your personal preference--just don't use Hornet after ~58 since Chicken knife offers 7.16 DPS.

But again, I'll underscore the advantages of /WAR for this level range since Attack is hard to come by and is crucial for post-60 weaponskills. Pro-tip: a sushi eating THF/WAR can pull raptors with sleep bolts.

And Heart snatcher is for Bards.
The time you spend unlocking it could be spent farming beehive chips for your Blau fund.

sub war, use the best dagger you can get your hands on (dmg usually wins). Don't bother subbing nin until you have loads of merits to boost your attack enough to warrent it. Zerk is just to good to not have if you're fighting IT mobs esp without a brd and the abiltity to eat meat and have good acc.

I have every intention of eventually subbing /war. I have to admit though I'm afraid of losing out on shadows for pulling.

I havent partied on THF since the aforementioned day, but I was thinking 50 would be a good time to start using it since I'll gain to access to Double Attack, and definately by 55 for Triple attack.

Are you supposed to get an evasion build for pulling, or is it expected to get Strider/Trotter boots to save you. Or am I completely blowing it out of proportion?

I'm hoping for one of the last couple of mercenary ranks to offer a 'Perdu Jambiya' or something like that which would equate to a free Blau with higher delay & base damage.

    That would rock pretty hard...

Considering we used to have a MNK/WAR pulling Dynamis, it's not hard. Just shoot from maximum range and keep running through camp until someone gets it off you. If your tank needs 40 years to target it and flash/provoke, get a new tank.

This is for normal speed mobs at least. For fleeing mobs, you'll want sleep bolts or /NIN. Your parties at higher levels will have mage pullers anyway.

    Still pretty crappy.

Everyone knows crits are good, but 6% is roughly 1 extra critical per TP cycle (average 18 swings for a THF). In a neutral Atk/Def situation, that means it hits for average 60 instead of 30 (+30 dmg gained). In the same period of time, a Magnet knife is hitting for average 32 each time (+36 dmg gained), plus slightly lower delay, and higher WS damage. And this is when single wielding. If you're dual wielding Heartsnatcher with something else, you're getting an extra crit every two TP cycles, so only 15 dmg gained per cycle.

And Magnet is the cheap/miminum default option. Anything better leaves Heartsnatcher even further in the dust.
