    Game Adapter Setup

    Howdy,

A while back I bought a Lynksys wireless-G game adapter (model WGA54G) so I could play FFXI in bed on my PS2 (yes, I'm that lazy), but I've never been able to get it to work. I bought it off of Ebay, so it could be a problem with the adapter.

I really don't know where to start testing to find out where the problem is coming from; if its just a setup issue in POL or if I'm not giving the adapter proper permissions from the router. Does anyone have experience setting one of these up, or could point me in the right direction for help? My router is a Netgear WGR614 v6.

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Game Adapter Setup

This product requires a lot of configuring and isn;t as easy as you might think to setup from what i've read, as is the case quite often with wireless.

Have a browse through customer feedback at Amazon for some tips on how other people have got theirs working.

As far as I am aware, if you can access the internet on your PS2 there should be no other restrictions for POL, but i'm more PC based than PS2.

If there's security on your router then you have to set the permissions on your adapter through your PC before hooking it up to your PS2. Just hook the adapter up to your PC, run the setup disk and follow the instructions, then hook it up to your PS2.

    I think.

Thanks for the tips. I'll give them a try when I get home from work.

    Re: Game Adapter Setup

Just an update on this setup:

Working off of your suggestion, Pyrena, I hard-wired the game adapter to my PC. I couldn't find the setup disk (and dont' remember if I ever got one), so I thought I'd access the device directly with IP 192.168.1.250 and check the firmware version from there. All I got was the message "Cannot connect to site". I'm not sure if I'm still doing something wrong, or if the adapter is just boned.

I just realized that I never got the "Windows has found new hardware" message that should have shown up when I connected the device. I think I'll try running through the add new hardware wizard when I get home.

I wish I knew more about how these things worked /sigh.

    Re: Game Adapter Setup

I used to play on PS2 three years ago on a wired network, but when I switched to a wireless network, I not only had to change permissions, but I also bought a wireless piece for my 360. It's a little difficult if you use Linksys, it's a 'game adapter' but it's not really user friendly to setup. I returned it and bought Microsofts $100 wireless piece for 360, and it works like a charm no issues.

As for PS2, I have it wireless via a slightly outdated USB Linksys Wireless Adapter, I updated it on my PC (The Center for the Network) then after configuring permissions for it, used it on my PS2. Google is your friend, try to google the product number and find info on it.

    Re: Game Adapter Setup

I have an old Linksys game adapter that I'm still using to play with my PS2. I was dcing a lot and so I hooked it up to my PC, went to Linksys's website and downloaded the latest setup software and have not had a dcing problem again. The software will look for the device and let you know if it cannot find it.
