    Nintendo DS Web Browser

I decided to walk into the brand new GameStop that opened up across from my job and saw this thing on the shelf brand new.

Enjoy quick, easy and portable access to the web via your Nintendo DS!

    Features

DS Web Browser offers added functionality to your Nintendo DS
Blog, check sports scores, and get the latest news in the palm of your hand
Dual screen offers a much larger portable browsing experience than a cell phone or a personal digital assistant
Customize your experience, disabling images to speed load times and altering the presentation to preserve the original page's layout or to maximize the screen space and readability on your DS
Navigation's a breeze with the touch screen!
You can access the web via your home wireless internet connection or any hot-spot access point. Look for more information on the DS Browser soon!

I was curious at 1st as to why but then I realized Nintendo has done more then enough freaky shit with the older Gameboys so this shouldn't have come as a surprise seeing the damn thing is Wi-Fi ready.

Now I was about to buy it but I saw in TINY print on the box that the unit only works for the DS-Lite and to actually get one for my OLD DS system, I'd have to order direct from Nintendo.com.

I'm kind of put-off seeing as I spent $129.00 bones for a DS and seeing it slowly get pushed off for the DS-Lite when it's pretty much the same god damn thing.

Anyways has anyone even picked this up yet? I'd love to hear some impressions on how well the browser works.

a lot of homebrews do the same thing but those aren't official like this one. I can't imagine a situation where I would need to browse the web on my DS. I have internet capabilities with my phone, and that is what I would use in a pinch. Everywhere else that has WiFi I would have access to a computer... at least for me.

I had originally bought a DS when it was released because they mentioned PDA software in the very near future. What the hell happened to that? This software seems like the closest thing, but I want to be able to store lots of text data and organize things amongst my calendar. Did I just miss a release?

I recall reading that it was due to Nintendo making the stupid decision to make the included memory-cart (cause god forbid surfing the net on a system with 4mb of RAM) fit the DSLite slot only......but I guess it helps promote their sleeker system more anyhow as it seems to be the only one of the two selling nowadays.

Regarding how it works, again as I read, it appears to be alright, albeit slow in processing pages, without Flash or Java support, and has a quirky handwriting recognition support for input.

Tbh, it's not something I'd buy, as you need to be within WiFi range to use, and for me, that means only around my house, as to which I have my PC for.

I hope I never feel so desperate to be connected to the internet that I have to grab my DS and run into a Starbucks.

Don't get me wrong. I have a Laptop for on the go Web browsing but i do like to see lil knickknacks like this once in awhile. There are extremes to even how much Nintendo goes with a Gameboy.

I remember them actually making a Gameboy that could run and control a sewing machine setup a long time ago.

Insert comment about PSP having nothing but PS/PS2 ports and the internet being compensation.

I've used both browsers and the one for DS is loads better. I still don't like either browser. :/
