Graphics issues on FFXI.

Lately, my graphics have been acting weird. It started off by getting black screen randomly while on ffxi (but not when I'm doing other things other than ffxi). It would go black for about 15 seconds, then go back to normal.

Then I started getting a weird error about my graphics card drivers, telling me I need to reboot to conserve information or something like that.

It eventually got to the point where I'll often randomly freeze and reboot while playing ffxi. This is starting to happen more and more often. It never reboots when I'm on ffxi, but not actively playing (i.e. when I bazaar overnight) but as soon as I start playing, I can encounter problems as soon as 5 minutes after I start, to 3 hours. My computer froze and rebooted about 8 times within an hour this morning, then went about 5 hours without rebooting.

I've done Mem test and I've reinstalled drivers multiple times. When I reinstall drivers, the problems seem to go away temporarily, but return soon. I almost never have problems like this when I'm not on ffxi. Despite the fact that I built this computer that I'm using, I actually know VERY little about computers, and I don't know what to do next.

I'm using GeForce 6600 card, if that matters.

6600 is fucking garbage for FFXI. Buy an ATI.

go to the nividea site and download most recent driver or just buy another "better" video card /cough

nVidia is known to have issues with FFXI, so I say your best bet would be to first get the latest drivers, and if that doesn't work, get a higher model GeForce, preferably 8500 or higher and play on that. If you use Vista, it would explain lots of problems, since lots of drivers are still in Beta for Vista.

I've been using 6600 for a while now and haven't had any problems until now <_>

I've tried getting the newest drivers plenty of times, but it only fixes the problem temporarily.

I guess I'll have to upgrade :/

Try seeing if the card locks up on other games...
If it does, chances are your card is on its last legs.

either ur gc is over heating or your lcd is going to die

Roll back to the Pre 100 Nvidia drivers. 98's If I remember worked well.

Lots of problems with the more current Nvidia drives in vista + ffxi.

I don't have vista. I'm using XP.
