    FFXI Music

Does anyone still listen to the in game music? I've never understood the general negativity towards XI's music, or why so many people feel the need to overlay some crappy heavy metal on every video they post on youtube. Anyway, I'm just curious what XI songs BG users like, or if there are any that you have to hurry and mute whenever they come up. The only track that gets on my nerves is the solo Battle Theme.

Here are some of my top favorites, in no real order:
    • Whispers of the Gods (Aydeewa Subterrane)
      Ever Turning Wheels
      The Ruler of the Skies
      Rabao
Third Ode: Memoria de la ?tona
      Mhaura

PS. Does anyone listen to POL music? There are a few songs in there that I really like, I would list them but I only know their Japanese names. I used to always leave POL on whenever I was doing work or homework just to listen to the music to have something non-distracting playing in the background.

    Wajoam Woodlands

Some of the ones that stick out on top of my head.

I love a lot of the music used in CS and mission battles.

Favorite song in the whole game is Ealdernache theme from final battle in RotZ!

After the 10,000 times you've listened to the same 1:30 minute track, it does get exceedingly repetitive.

    Re: FFXI Music

The previous FF games had way better music, tho this game still have some good tunes, however, getting repetitive after awhile.
I listen to msuic from webradio from this page while playing http://www.radiorivendell.com/
Music from games/movies etc, makes it more enjoyable to play for me.

    Re: FFXI Music

I still listen to the game music while playing. Also I used to have a program that could convert the .bgm to .wav but since the final battle of CoP got introduced they are using a new system/codec so that program doesn't work on the new songs.

Theres plenty of songs I like but some of my favorites would be:
    - Sanctuary of Zitah
    - Shadowlord battle / Dynamis (I like the remix version of it too)
    - Promathia 2nd part of the battle

I agree with the OP on the Youtube videos on crappy songs that don't fit at all with the video. Anyway, here are some of my favorites that I can think of right now:

    -Awakening
    -Tough Battle #3
    -Movalpolos
    -Pso'Xja
-A lot of the original game's songs whose names I forgot
    -Ro'Maeve
    -Tu'Lia
    -The Celestial Capital
    -The Ruler of the Skies
    -All of the odes
    -The music for the Pit
-The Black Coffin (or whatever the Ashu Talif's music is called)
    -Some other Aht Urhgan song
    -Nashmau
    -Ilusions in the Mist
    -Arrapago Reef music
    -A lot of other stuff

I used to listen to POL music while doing HW, during maintenance, or playing a handheld of some kind.

Depths of the Soul (Promathia Dungeon)
    Delve (ToAU Dungeon)
Warriors of the Crystal (DM Theme)
Realm of Emptiness (Promathia Boss Theme...reminiscent of Xenogears for some reason)
Currents of Time (Purgonorgo/Carpenter's Landing Boat theme)
The Forgotten City (Tavnazian Safehold theme)
    Voyager (Boat Theme)
    Distant Worlds (CoP ending theme)
    Ronfaure

    I love CoP...

Kazham's theme is awesome, I am surprised that no one mentioned it. It's the only reason I don't have nightmares about XPing in the jungles.

    Bastok's theme and Gustaberg both make me sad and nostalgic since that is where I started the game. It reminds me of all of the people I miss playing with. ;_;

    Re: FFXI Music

I used to listen to the music all the time, I boggled at the thought of people playing without it.

Then one day I turned off music and just left sound effects on, and fell in love. So quiet! The same song isn't repeated over and over!

Other than when I sometimes remember to turn music on for a CS, I haven't listened to the music in months. I do like some of it, but the game is just so much nicer without it! I wouldn't have understood that a year ago, but it really works for me that way now.

And, as an added bonus, there are a lot of sound effects you miss because of the music. The wind howling like a wolf in the Coast/Meadows, cool things in the Besieged intros, bugs/birds/frogs in various zones, lots of stuff I never noticed before!

I generally play with the sound off unless fishing. But I do have some of the areas songs on itunes, as well as some themes from previous FF's.

Edit: And Metalworks too since I was a smither.
