Wings of the Goddess concept art spec [Edit:They Recycled]

So I was spamming the pol frontpage hoping for a Friday update, when I saw this in the VanaWind box:

Clicking it brings you to the webcam, which seems to just spam the trailer over and over atm.

Anyways, I always love their concept art, and how the box art (assumming this is the box art) plays into the theme and the story of the expansion. (Aht'urghan's box art had the frame covered in snakes with a mysterious woman at the bottom).

Anyways, to speculate, it appears Altana is front and center, hovering above Vana'diel commanding her team of avatars.

Avatars (from left to right):
-I don't know what the thing on the left is, but it looks like she has the 5 Terrestrial Avatars behind her, so it's possible this could be diabolos?
-The one exactly to the left looks like Fenrir.
-To the right theres Bahamut.
-Then there a blueish-red creature that I'm guessing is Phoenix, that's not really how I pictured Phoenix, it kinda looks more like Ifrit.
-Off to the side, kinda cut-off is Carbuncle.

Vana'diel:
-Behind Altana, there looks like a festival is going on, bunch of umbrellas and tents.
-Bottom left is a big tree, I'm guessing Windurst Walls.
-A the top-right of the picture, there looks to be black rocks or bombs with smoke falling onto Vana'diel, I'm not sure if that's a part of "Phoenix", or maybe the meteor in the previous pictures/videos.


Questions: To the left of Bahamut, there looks to be a blue creature... It's kinda hard to figure out what it is because I think it blends in with the water in the background? Anyways, I know Fenrir played a part in the Great War, but I don't know about the role of the other avatars and there could be potentially other divine creatures that play into the story. It would be cool to see if anyone can point out anything else I missed.

Is this too much speculation over 1 picture? Yeah... but I thought alot of people would want to see this... Enjoy!

I'm gonna say that the creatures around what we'll assume is Altana are actually new (old) Avatars. That white thing to left of her looks more like Ixion (hooves + horn) than it does our current wolfy version of Fenrir. Whether or not we can assume they're gonna be new summons or something at this point is completely wild speculation.

It doesn't have to be Ixion either...could be just a generic weird looking horse or goat. I can't tell you with any certainty what it is. I can only make guesses as to what I think it looks like.

to be honest, i agree, none of them look familiar... except maybe bahamut and i think carbuncle... and those avatars still dont look all that recognizable

The artwork you've posted is at least 1+ years old, isn't it? The full-lenght version was shown in some BG thread a while ago.

I doubt it was specifically made for WoTG unless they had the storyline planned already, which isn't unlikely considering the meticolous production design behind FFXI and commissioned the picture for posterior usage; however what makes me skeptical is, why would they have shown such artwork over a year before the 4th expansion release was even announced, it seems kinda preposterous, they've probably just used a generic image somewhat related to Vanadiel lore due to the lack of WoTG art available or purposely kept hidden the WoTG original box-art(s) since they would've revealed too many details regarding the unreleased storyline.

...or, perhaps, they're just gonna be cheap once again and recycle an old ass artwork for the new box lol, I wouldn't be surprised.

I saw that a few minutes ago and I was like "they can't possibly reuse an image for box art," but then I remembered the new Ratchet and Clank game is apparently combining 2 old images for its NA box art...

They could all be dual element avatars like Phoenix being Light + Fire, Ixion would be Thunder + something?

A hint that there may be 4 new avatars coming in WOTG or simply that they play some role in the storyline.

I think that is Nashmeira on the box art for ToAU. They both have the same hair style, just not the same color.

The art this guy (forgot his name) has done for FFXI in the past has had very little to do with the actual game, I don't see why this would be any different. There's very little substance to be drawn from these things, seems like a wasted effort. It's really spiffy art, though.

I noticed Odin on there, as well as Titan, Leviathan, Ramuh, and Fenrir to the right. Ifrit and Diabolos are at the top. Carbuncle is at the bottom, Shiva is at the bottom left, Phoenix is the middle left, Bahamut to the middle left just above a hippogryph, and then there are 4 unidentifiable monsters immediately to Altana's left. Immediately to her right are 3 other monsters, and a small Carbuncle hidden amongst them. Directly below Odin looks like Quezalcoatl, Midgarsormr, and Salamander. Siren looks to be right above Phoenix. Otherwise it's probably Garuda. Above Ramuh looks to be Seraph. Funny enough, Alexander is totally absent.
