1000 Needles only doing 208?

Faught a cactaur last night, was wondering why it only did 208 damage to me. I was mostly dead so it couldn't of been my remaining hp.

Stuff I had:

35~ defence bonus
48-50 phalanx
46-48 physical damage resistance

Scissor Guard was up.


Any math people wanna have fun with this one?

I just had a cactuar do 400 damage to mine with 1000 needles, I have no physical damage reduction skill or anything, so I guess it's a safe assumption that that's base (unless it varies by cactuar level or something). Since you have both phalanx and physical damage resistance it's gonna be hard to figure because you have two unknown variables and you aren't completely certain of their level, but if I had to guess it'd be that the damage resistance bonus took off a bit over 35%, bringing it to 258 and the phalanx took off another 50. If so that's pretty potent damage resistance, but it could also be that base damage for 1000 needles isn't fixed at 400 in which case the physical damage resistance and phalanx may be more or less potent. Defense bonus and Scissor Guard should probably be irrelevant to it.

Edit: Also, if you were more or less dead, then it's also conceivable that phalanx had worn off at that point, but that the damage resistance caps at 50% at Lvl 50, and since you were in the high 40s it was just 48%, although that should be 207 or 209 rather than 208 but who knows how they may have adjusted the formula specifics for Pankration anyway.
