Well due to the positioning of my computer monitor, desk, and chair, I usually point west with a slight tint of south while synthing, I've found that facing this direction has no effect. One day I took out my laptop and tried synthing while facing different directions, after over 25,000 tests, I found that the real secret isn't to face north, west, south, or east, but rather, think outside the box, if I lay down on my bed face up, and hold the laptop above me with one hand, and press the enter key for the synth, my HQ rate skyrockets, I think it's because the game registers me looking up as looking at "every" direction, which also hits the "correct" direction to be looking for highest HQ chance at that time. I hope this information helps you on your quest to find correlations between direction you face and HQ rates.

personally i do all my synths naked, fully erect and it makes it that 100% of the time i either Break NQ or HQ.
