Here is a doosey of a video problem

    I have 3 video cards:

    ATI 9600XT
    nVidia 6600GT
    ATI X1650 PRO

I've had the ATI 9600XT and the nVidia 6600GT since the beginning of time, I know they both work. I bought the ATI x1650 PRO today. I got home, and took out the nVidia 6600GT that I was using, and put the new ATI card in. All direct3d tests failed, POL would open with distortions and pixels all over the place, and VERY laggy. I thought I had a bad card. So I put in my old ATI card...same problem. At this point I'm thinking I broke some shit in my computer, so I put the nVidia card back in. The nVidia card works...

Why is my computer all of a sudden rejecting ATI cards Q_Q.

(All video cards were installed with proper software and drivers, and "Driver Cleaner" was used to remove all files before installing)

#1 ALL ati cards are shit
#2 reboot into safe mode (hitting f8 as your pc boots)
    #3 uninstall nvidia drivers
    #4 install standard VGA drivers
#5 turn off pc and install new shitty ati card
#6 boot pc and install shitty ATI drivers for shitty card
#7 stare at shitty graphics and wish you had bought a nvidia card
#8 return ATI card and buy and nvidia card
    #9 rejoice
#10 thank me for informing you of how ATI sucks

ati isn't shit, my radeon 9700 pro is working like a charm 5 years after I installed it. can't play bioshock worth a damn, but then again I never expected to.

when you uninstalled the videocard drivers, did you use the nvidia disk first? not familiar with the driver cleaner program, but it obviously didn't do it if the nvidia card worked without reinstalling.

my bet at this point: reinstall and update the nvidia drivers, then uninstall them using nvidia's uninstall tool. then try installing the ati drivers again.

This is better than Driver Cleaner, if you really don't think the uninstall that came with the drivers does what it's supposted to do.

Re: Here is a doosey of a video problem

    Remove all all nVidia drivers.
    Reboot.
Go into device manager and if you see any nvidia cards listed(which you probably will), delete them.
    Turn off your PC.
    Install your ATI card.
Reboot with driver disc in tray.
    Install drivers.
    Reboot.

I've had problems with nvidia leaving residue behind when I've tried to install ATI cards on friends machines. Driver uninstall and removing from device manager before installing the ATI card cleared up most issues.

Re: Here is a doosey of a video problem

I've had issues with my ATI card and FFXI. If I try to boost the card settings from the Catalyst menu at all, POL/FFXI freaks out on me and looks all choppy. In particular all of the menu the buttons looked like shit. The only fix I could come to was setting all of the Catalyst options to "Let the application decide" or whatever. Not sure if you're running into the same problem as I am, but my card is an x1600 so it seems possible.

    Found the problem.

It's a known issue with the newer catalyst drivers, and all ATI AGP cards.

Downgrading to Catalyst 7.6 drivers fixes it if you have an AGP card.

    Q____Q

Honestly, in my personal experience, nVidia cards have given me NOTHING but trouble.

I can't dual log with my nVidia card w/o hitting 3 fps on both windows.
If I regedit my bg res to anything above 1024x1024 with my nVidia card, I can't dual log AT ALL.
Portal/HL2/TF2 were artifacting like fucking balls with my nVidia card.
My inferior ATI 9600 was outperforming my nVidia 6600GT and the 9600 doesn't have a fan haha.

You lose! The new Omega drivers are based off the same ATI drivers that cause the problem. I've looked into this. Omega suggests you downgrade to their previous drivers if you have an AGP card as well.

I'm using an ATI Radeon X850 XT PCIe with omega drivers and have no problems running any of my games.
