POL Tech Help, please.

Hello, BG.

My friend has recently enlisted in the force and was relocated to Iraq. He previously played FFXI on the same server as I. The account payment was halted before he left for Iraq, unfortunately. However, he recently told me he doesn't want his character to be deleted in case he comes back. I gladly volunteered to help pay for it, of course =). He neglected to (or forgot) to mention his password to me before he hung up the phone and there is no way to call him back. I have his password saved under my POL, luckily. However, I am required to verify this password before I can change payment method. I CANNOT for the life of me remember the password itself and it is encrypted in *'s on the POL screen. Is there anyway to find out what the password is within the POL folders on my computer? Or perhaps any other method.

I can't imagine there would be anywhere in the POL folders that would show his password... it kinda defeats the purpose of a password if it's readily available like that. If my memory serves me correctly though, SE keeps your character data for 1 full year after deletion/payment halting, as opposed to the 3 months it used to be. If this is true then you have plenty of time to contact your friend.

Also I surgest you just phone your friend as ask him. No one is gonig to invest any time in trying to help you crack someone elses password. Regardless of what stroy you tell. Even if his account does get terminated, there's loads of "return to ffxi" schemes all the time, and he could always come back on one of those. iirc your account wont get totaly deleted unless you don't pay for 3 months, so you have quite a while to try and get in touch with him.

When I stopped playing two years ago I had switched banks so my debit card was no longer valid. 12 months later I decided to come back and my character was still there I just had to set my payment method up again. So he/she should be fine and i'm sure you will speak to them before their character is gone.
