Captain rank & extra tag

By the time you have captain, you will have one extra tag storage, but you don't need captain rank to get it. You just need to beat all 50 assaults and Nyzul. I got the extra tag when I completed my 51st assault. I still haven't gotten captain yet.

Supposedly, you need 50 assaults, Nyzul, and AMs complete for captain. I'm missing the AMs; ie. I do not have captain rank, but I do have an extra tag. I've been working on assaults and postponing the AM fights. Considering how easy the AMs have been so far compared to the assaults, it's not surprising that folks are associating the tag with the captain rank. A couple of days has pushed me up to AM35. It would have been faster if it wasn't for the "JP midnight" speed-bumps. It took 3 months to clear assaults.

Other way around, but yes, there was no question there. A minor clue to there being no question in the post is that there are no question marks.

I just keep seeing a ton of people saying things like "the extra tag you get from Captain" and wanted to correct that thinking. It's misleading. I recently completed 51 assaults and was granted the extra tag. This had me a bit excited, since I had assumed from my web readings that I was ready for captain rank-up. I was hoping to "massage" Naja with her own mace. No go. You need something more than just 51 assaults: I'm assuming it's 100% completed AM's. It's probably not just partial AMs -- I'm on AM42 now and no captain still.

Yes, it requires AM completion. I actually thought everyone knew that. XD

Actually, Captain requires the 50 non-nyzul assaults, but not Nyzul.
I assume you need to be done with all ToAU missions for captain as well. When I was maybe 40/50 assault someone pointed out that most people who were captain had already cleared Nyzul before finishing 50/50. I made a point to avoid Nyzul as I was in a good position to test the true requirements. I had done Nyzul once, got for 4th floor and timed out without saving. I finished 50/50 and was given the captain rank up but no extra tag. 1-2 weeks later I did Nyzul again, this time making it to floor 3, saving and exiting. The assault NPC immediately gave me the extra tag storage.

Thanks Ryda, that's actually very useful to know. That means our group doesn't have to burn up a tag getting a sure-win on Nyzul for people to reach captain -- though I'm sure we'll end up doing it anyway so folks can get an extra tag storage.

I was getting so many conflicting stories on exactly what was needed for Captain that I felt it was important to start a thread on it to at least clear up the points I could straighten out. The key point I had was that captain and extra-tag are not directly associated.

Sounds like we have it nailed down now:

Captain: 50 Assaults and AMs complete.
Extra-tag: 50 Assaults and 1 Nyzul win.

You get the Captain rank up quest from Abquhbah. Are you by chance trying to talk to Naja?

This is my experience: 50/50, no captain. Got 1 floor win on Nyzaul. Got extra tag. No captain. Beat all AMs and completely finished all AM cutscenes. Got captain. According to Ryda, you can skip the Nyzul win. I can't confirm that you can skip it, but I can confirm that you don't need more than a single floor. I've only been inside Nyzul once: zone in, beat floor 1, exited for success.

It could be that you don't have 50/50, too. I kept very careful track, so I knew for sure. If you haven't kept track, you can find out if you did 50/50 by inspecting the names of the completed assaults on your character's quest & mission lists. You'll have to match up the names there and check them off one by one to find out if you're missing one. Tedious, but there is a way for you to be sure.

I counted my complete assault missions a milion times, theres 50 names on it. I spoke to both naja and Abquhbah and all npcs in assault zone a milion times, zoned did all again, waited a "lol jap midnight thing" tryed all npcs again, nothing. I put my glory crow on, spoke to all npc again, nothing. I have floor 4 exit stored on my disc, but I prety sure I beat floor 5 once in a random pt I went a week after nyzul was introduced.

Any clues? ;_; everyone else on my static assault mission got the rank after beat dracula but me.

edit: er.. I am at work and cant check the game now, but.. theres any case that "nyzul investigation" appears in the missions>assault>completed> menu? if it does, then theres my problem, can anyone check? thx.

Yeah, if you have 50 entries and one of them is Nyzul, you missed a regular assault somewhere.

Also, I had previously reported that after completing all 50 normal assaults, and successfully completing Nyzul up to floor 4, I could get Captain but did not get the extra tag. This is incorrect, as reported above: I do have the extra tag. However, some people had mentioned getting some text from Rytaal about him storing an extra tag; I'm 99% positive he never said it to me. I checked my chat log several times after finishing my last assault, talked to him a bunch, etc.

Uh, there's a concrete answer for Captain & Extra Tag by the 3rd "real" post. Who cares about the wiki wars and other junk?

I completely agree with you. I don't care about the wiki wars and I use both.
