    RIP Robert Jordan

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Jordan for those who don't know who he is or why you should care.

    I was told he dictated the last book of WoT on his deathbed. Still a very sad day

    (sorry if I missed this post already)

    /quote from his blog

    Epilog: Yes he is continuing to work through all of this medical calamity. MOL is going into the word processor and onto audio tapes almost daily. Not every day mind you, because the medical fight takes first priority. But, he told you he’d finish and he will. Fact is that it has been finished in his head for years. During a recent family sit around, he became the Gleeman and told the bones of it ALL to Harriet and me. You read that right, I did say ALL. Don’t ask, ain’t telling. Two and a half hours of story telling by the Creator himself went by in the twinkling of an eye. Truly magical. All I can say is WOW! Best stuff he’s ever done. MOL is going to knock your socks off! That’s a promise.

    So that's why it took 4 years in-between each book. Seriously I Loved the first 6 books. I got tired after book ~9 cuz the story went nowhere and it felt like years waiting for each mediocre book to come out.

    Tis a sad, sad day. He said he wasn't going to die until it was finished though, or that he was going to die trying. Just sad that he didn't get the chance to.

    He did say he would keep writing until they nailed his coffin shut.

    Dictation counts as writing. =P

    I'm still excited to see how the series ends, but it won't be the same.

    Wow, just amazed. I didn't think he was that close to dying. Looking forward to the last book a great deal.

    I gave up the series at around book 6, but have been following the stories somewhat with outlines, so I would still be interested in how the series will finally end.

    RIP RJ

    Although the last few of his books rambled on a bit I still really enjoyed the series as a whole. His skills as a writer will be sorely missed

    You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

    Re: RIP Robert Jordan

    See this is why you don't do what he did. -.-;

    For those who don't keep up on stuff liek this, WoT was originally a trilogy. Well basically he wrote the first one and if it sold well he was going to complete the story as a trilogy. Sometime during writing the second book Tor offered him to extend it to a 5 book series which he accepted. Then around book 4 they increased to to 7. Then around book 5 they increased it to 14 (I stopped paying attention after that, I noticed that wiki said it was slated for 12 but that could have been shortened because of his illness.)

    So basically he was taking a trillogy and extending the story into 12-14 books. Which is why (as you probably noticed) the books seemed to get longer and longer in story and just stretched on with random events that didn't seem to matter. Because he only really had his story inmind and was trying to add "fluff" to make it into 12-14 books.

    If he had at most stuck with the 5 (I think those were done pretty well and didn't stretch too much) we would have gotten the full story rather nicely. Instead he sold out and didn't get to really finish it the way it should have been. ;;

    On a random sid enot I have book 8 signed by him. I met him maybe 6 years ago. Very very quiet guy. Most authors I met tried to keep very excited at their books signings (even though their hands hurt and were fairly tired.) But I supposed he wasn't feeling too well back then either. :/

    Sad to see him go in the end though. Hope he rests in peace. ;_;

    [edit] I fail at posting.

    I think it is quite awesome that he wanted to try finish writing WoT even though he was very ill. It really shows he was dedicated to his fans.

    When I first heard of his death yesterday, I was all "I fucking knew it." But knowing he dictated the ending puts my mind at ease. Yes, I am a selfish bastard.

    Oh, and RIP RJ (just in case God reads BG forums)

    Okay. So who the fuck killed Asmodean? He had said on numerous occasions that the answer was plain enough, but I apparently am entirely too stupid or obtuse to divine this information. That being said, someone please tell me who it was and your reason for making the claim. I'm at a loss.

    Re: RIP Robert Jordan

    Pretty sure it was Moghedien, but its been a while since I read the story.

    edit: actually, I'm not so sure anymore. but there was one character that RJ deliberately mentioned in a later book (7? 8?) as one to team-up but never one to let word of it get out. That's the person whodunnit.

    Nah, the character was introduced in or before book 5.
