if it's bone standard, you get 25 points all stats start at 8.

it costs 1 point per increase up to 14.
15 16 and 17 cost 2.
18 costs 3.

if you don't feel like dealing with point counts, the "elite" array (15 14 13 12 10 8) is 25 point buy. just assign them as you like to your stats, apply racial modifiers and you're good to go.

common variants are to increase the number of points you start with, to 28 or 32 for instance.

Bagel and I are using the same system of rolling d6 4 times for each stat. You drop the lowest roll and that's your score. After you've rolled your 6 scores, you assign them to the stat that you desire.

I don't know if Bagel allows rerolling, but if you don't like your scores, I allow you to reroll up to two times. If you roll lower than your previous scores though, you can't take your old ones back.

EDIT: Wrote d4, instead of d6.
