Alchemy doesn't make money, unless you're willing to farm your mats and synth tons of shit at little profit.

Seems like thats pretty much all you can do since, as you say, you don't have the gil to support cursed items.

Sneak Oils! Oh... right.... sneak ninjitsu..... Blood Armor still seems pretty profitable if you have my luck (2/12).

Volume prism powder if you farm the gob/mob/tonberry bits, mercury if you know how to do it, poison (if you have key item), anima's on some servers.

Its all about volume, like cooking...and buying from vendors

I must be doing it wrong. I went 0/65ish to start and 3/36 (all cuisses-1, 1/12 in 3 batches) until tonight where I started up another losing streak with 0/15 with an HQ'd heart thrown in to spite me (makes it 3 lifetime).

Sorry, don't mean to rant....I'll go sleep off the anger.

    Re: Money from Alchemy?

Despite what some of the previous posters have told you, Alchemy can net you a decent chunk of money, but it takes you time. I made about 10M on alchemy over the course of about 2 months of sparatic crafting. My advice to you is to focus your time and effort into farming and crafting lower quality items. Also check NPCs when selling your goods because the given state of the economy may mean that NPCs will offer more money than bidders on the AH (plus you have no hassle of selling them).

Once you have a good bit of money (Probably over 1.5M), your best bet is to try and hq some of the T1 synths. Provided you dont get unlucky, you should make a decent bit of money which can be reinvested into your crafting. I would personally reccomend using the money towards working on your Emeralda. It all depends on your server, and I'm not going to tell you which crafts will work the best for you (as I have no clue which ones sell on your server), but it is something you can find out relatively easily by trial and error.

    Hope this helps you.

Once you're at 100, make remedies and sell to NPC.
Eye drops work to a lesser extent too.

I couldn't have said it better. I've got 60+1 Alchemy since I am a 100+3 Cook and I can't think of a time I haven't been able to make profit. While it might not be insanely high amounts of money, even with 60 alchemy I can make crap like HQ beeswax etc. A few of my friends at 100 make cursed equipment or HQ weapons of some sorts. I've only done Cooking,Alch,Bone,Leather,Fishing so I can't vouch as much for the other crafts...but there's always something you can pull marignal profit from with research.

I believe you've got yourself on the right track. An old friend of mine (Valatyle on CaitSith) used to sell large amounts of Silver Bullets for profit then funnel money sparingly into Cursed Gear HQ attempts. It worked out quite well for him in the end, I don't think he plays anymore though.

Usually for Cooking when I don't want to dump money into Sushi or dump time into fishing the fish up, I use my alchemy and make lower level HQs. Sometimes the Lv30 synths are the ones that net you enough steady profit to gather some gil up. A Leathercraft & Clothcraft friend of mine used to/still does synth Seer's Gear consistantly and sells the HQ for good amounts. GL on your crafting, remember the biggest synth doesn't always mean the biggest profit. ^0^

    Re: Money from Alchemy?

I think when some people like myself say that Alchemy doesn't make money anymore, we are more saying relative to what it used to do. For people who were like me and among the first 100 Alchemist years ago, we made a fortune synthing things like Hawker Knife +1s, Hakutaku eye clusters, silver bullets, Silent oils, prism powders, cursed crimson -1 (as well as the few HNM shells out there at the time paying for any crimson synths NQ or HQ). Or others made a fortune npcing black ink for hours as well.

Now a days, there still are things that can make profit, but when you compare the hours it takes mass producing these things for miniscule profit compared to many other things you could do with the same time to make more profit, its not worth alot to use alchemy anymore. Any worthwhile HNM shell has their own alchemist that will perform crimson synths, hawkers aren't really worth alot and I haven't been asked to do a haku synth for anyone in 2 years!

I make my money these days doing ENMs and fishing, and its not a great living, but its enough to pay for the weekly limbus, consumables and other stuff that I use each week I guess

I'm sure alchemy is not the only craft this has happened with, and I would be suprised if this hasn't happened to all of them though, so nothing really standing out as a reason why Alchemist should cry more than others.. its just the way things are now vs 2004.

    Re: Money from Alchemy?

If you can't make good money with alchemy you're doing it wrong.

Though no ones gonna tell you what to do right either, lest you usurp them.
