Romantic Advice!!!

Well.. I see everything else asked here so I figured I may as well post this. I'm leaving to go visit my (relatively new) girlfriend tomorrow straight from work (flight from Chicago to Connecticut) which I have to be at @ around 8am... so prolly won't see many replies... But I was kinda thinking on it at work today and figured I'd make a post to get some random suggestions. So here goes.

Long story short, I'm flying out to Connecticut to see my girlfriend (long-distance relationship, eww)... and although I've been to visit before, as has she, its my first time meeting her parents [I'm staying at their house Thursday night through Monday evening]. I like to think I don't normally need to ask these things, as I've had girlfriends before, and I've met their parents before (even lived at one's place with her parents for a while) and I think I'm pretty good at presenting myself well, not making a fool out of myself, and impressing parents / other important figures and not looking like a jackass / tryhard.... buuuut, things have been more serious with this girlfriend (not high-school fling type deal anymore) and I really want to make sure I don't gum things up.

Like I said, I'm flying out there tomorrow, night, staying until Monday evening... Just looking for general advice I guess? lol.. As stated, I get the basics, and don't think it'll be an issue, but I'm sweating this one more than usual. I'll (most likely) be staying in a separate room from my GF's to kinda ease her parents minds', but we'll be out looking at apartments etc... and at least one of the nights we're all going out to dinner. I just am nervewracked at the thought of sitting at a table with them all kinda staring at me, heh.

Anyhow, I guess this is just to vent my nervousness as much as ask for infos, but if anyone has any cool cut ideas, fill me in. For instance, a friend of mine a while back said that while doing something like this, pick up two sets of flowers; one for the girl, one for the mom. I thought it was the greatest idea ever, and a great way to make a great impression... My other friends on the other hand think this is the worst idea imaginable and will just look corny. Thoughts?

Seriously though, a gift of somekind for the parents should be standard I imagine. Flowers sound good, but a bottle of wine can be nice too...

Best advice I can give is to get them talking and listen well.


If you're nervous about them all being so focused on you, just play into the human desire for attention and get them all so focused on talking about themselves that they forget they're supposed to be measuring and weighing everything you do heh. You get away from the akward staring/silence moments, they look back on it as a good night, everyone's happy.

Wine sounds like a practical option. Flowers are nice, for those who like them but there is always the possibility that the mother could find them to be cheesy (like your friend thinks). Also, the wine could potentially be an ice-breaker. Just be yourself, and hopefully things will go well. Good luck!

I always offer to help with things. Cooking, cleaning, helping get stuff out of the car if they go shopping, doing the dishes if they are not anal about how they are done has always done wonders for me.
